A-side ‘Tone Music’ builds with a melodic structure of electronic droplets as rattling percussion does the driving. A n injection of techno wonk stabs blended with pitched down RnB sampling, ‘Tone Music’ is a sonic patchwork of futuristic beams and bleeps, synth shards, and shakers.
Moving into crackling, dubby terrain, ‘Lo To Hi’ is a spooky affair with solid claps and a nifty little bassline groove. As warped vocal snippets float into the atmosphere, the swirling pads serve to envelop the senses and build a sense of tension and drama up to the break.
In keeping with the slower vein and bathed in warm, ethereal pads, ‘Doldrums’ builds with distorted synth melodies and chopped up vox until the rise of drums, and unexpected drop of heavy bassline throb along with subtle twists of acid swerve into the mix.

Justin Martin’s ghetto garden has produced another hefty harvest: a second remix volume from his widely-acclaimed "Ghettos & Gardens" brings you refixes of all shapes and sizes from some of Justin’s favorite producers and best mates.

Eats Everything’s mix is a big Bristolian bully, getting extra ruff with that Ruff Stuff, bouncing the bass against your head a bit before dealing out a series of insanely deep drops, knocking you out for the final count!

“When I was 18 I had those albums you’d escape with. When we were making the Footprintz record that was really our aim – to produce an album that kids can listen and escape to”.

Every journey has its beginning, and as the opening chords of ‘The Things That Last Forever’ give way to a hypnotic bassline, you know you’re on your way. Basslines form a key part of the Footprintz sound, acting as an anchor from which vocal melodies, synth lines and warm chords weave around in an often psychedelic style. Debut single, ‘Utopia’, exemplifies this ethic with its synth flirtations and optimistic vocal musings adding layers upon a solid core.

As Clarian and Addy say, “We wanted to work around a concept of escaping the confused years of growing up. 16-25, those are the years where you’re figuring yourself out, going through the motions of meeting different people and finding new things”. Tracks like ‘Uncertain Change’ and recent single ‘Dangers of The Mouth’ tackle this subject head on, focusing on the insecurities that arise from growing up. ‘Zanzibar’ takes a lighter approach, touching on the innocence of youth that brings with it, its own simple pleasures.

What becomes apparent throughout ‘Escape Yourself’ is a real craftsmanship to Footprintz’s songwriting. Each track reveals a little more on each listen, aided by the slick production work, done predominantly by the guys themselves in their Montreal bunker studio full of analogue equipment, odd instruments and a fridge laden with ‘special brownies’; which goes some way to explain a noirish-haze that permeates through the album.

Having met at an afterparty aged 15, Clarian North & Adam Hunter have experienced most of their adult life together. ‘Escape Yourself’ distills their experiences, wraps them in a warm analogue fuzz and shares them with the listener. You join them on their journey, and deep down they hope it helps you shape your own.

Taking its lead from the distinct musical styles at Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel’s two venues – The Club and The Tower – The Unexpected Sessions Vol. 1 brings you cutting edge dance music from across the spectrum; the first disc packed with pure, uplifting party anthems while the second drops the BPMs for a deep excursion through the very finest house music around.

On CD1 you’ll find some of the biggest names in EDM dropping hit after uplifting hit, including Alesso’s ‘Crash’, Hard Rock Sofa & Swanky Tunes ‘Here We Go’ and the huge Iban Reus remix of Todd Terry’s seminal ‘Jumping’. Also included are Dirty South & Deniz Koyu ‘Halo’ and Michael Woods ‘Platinum Chains’; a suitably epic finale to a mix that starts big and doesn’t let up for the duration.

The pace is brought down on CD2, with uber-stylish deep house very much the name of the game. After anthemic outings on the main label, Hypercolour co-boss Alex Jones returns to the much loved HypeLTD off shoot with a new EP, Haggerston, that sees him explore quite different sonic territory from his freaky house norm. 

First up is Voltage, which starts fully formed with rinsing, dusty jungle breaks jostling up and down with plenty of fizz. As the track develops, ravey hi hats and snatched vocal cries recalling the early nineties with effortless ease. Bustling for over eight minutes, things grow increasingly unhinged with paranoid synths and ever-scratchier percussion wrapping round each other in kinetic style. 

Next track Dummy Kick out drops into a much more reserved, slow techno stomp. Occult and shadowy voices drift in and out of focus as a muted acid wiggle gurgles in the background. At the mid-point those classic breaks arrive again as skewed and twisted synths spray for maximum carnage. 

Finally, SMP could be a Mike Dehnert cut. Dubby kicks surge forwards and lean into grainy synth stabs, triggering the release of oversized bell sounds, abstract machine made gurgles and a repetitive vocal. The results are heady and intense, the sort of thing that will disorientate ravers in those early morning hours on the dancefloor. 

Undeniably referencing a certain ravey and hardcore tradition, importantly, Jones also imbues this EP with plenty of innovation… fans of 4am freak outs will be in heaven with this one.
