Ebb & Flow Altered States Sunspot Activity Sunrise set

🧟 in the depth of my soul, there is a song; a song that lives in the seed of my heart 🧟

Ebb & Flow is the collaborative project of Matt Scrimgour (Parabolic Flow) & Tristen Henning (Voidwalker) hailing from Cape Town, South Africa. Having started our journey in February of 2017, we have since played at numerous indoor events & outdoor festivals alongside some of Cape Town’s finest psychedelic acts. 

We focus on bridging the gap between styles, always striving for a hard-edged approach to our mixing style. From Ambient/Down tempo (Our Wub & Dub alias) to Dark Progressive, Full-on, Forest & Dark-Psy, we leave no stone unturned in terms of the psychedelic music in our arsenal. We firmly believe that light and dark cannot exist without each other and we have made it our mission to find the balance between these concepts, both in our music and through our sets.

Since our signing to Woo-Dog Recordings in 2018 we have released our first compilation “Bark & Bite” as well as our first track “Grove Groove” and we are currently working away at our next compilation as well as future track releases.

I-Phy has proven to be the fresh talent the darkpsy sub-genre has been waiting for. By the end of 2017 she had the skills and confidence to share her gifts with the world. She now regularly plays her sets at some of Cape Town’s best events/clubs as well as Jo'burg.

As she skilfully weaves a musical tapestry with layered melodies and heavy basslines, I-Phy tells a story of magical creatures and self-exploration that leads the listener through the dark forest of the soul and into the light. She explains her love for darkpsy: "I believe that as humans, for us to know the light, we have to make friends with our own darkness. This is where all beauty lies. And through our active meditation on the dance floor, we're able to collectively touch our inner truth. This is a deeply healing experience that I hope will ultimately lead to the healing of our mother Earth.”

"When I'm up there in the DJ booth and I see all those faces looking back at me, I know that I am part of their stories and they are part of mine. As I read the crowd, I know that each person is fighting their own demons but we are there supporting each other. For that brief moment under the lights and sound, we create a kind of magical ecstasy that only happens when barriers fall away. I am always deeply honoured when someone opens their heart to my mix."

Having recently played at popular psytrance events like The Psygasm Experience (Cape Town), FTP (Cape Town) and Synergetic (Johannesburg), I-Phy has been extremely well-received and she hasn't looked back yet. "It’s a privilege to work with such amazing people in the scene. We're like a family and I know we're all working for a better world where we can grow together and be accepted for who we are - humans, non-humans and animals alike."

I-Phy usually works with darkpsy and psytrance producers but is versatile in the 134-156 BPM range. Some of her favourite record labels are: Occulta Records, Iono Records, Nano Records, Dream Temple Records, Our Minds, Bom Shanka Music, Looney Moon Records, Sangoma Records, Samaa, Purple Hexagon.
