Having met as classical music majors “in the weirdest school in the U.S.,”  Evergreen State College, the two Angelenos had explored Avant-Garde, jazz, rock, electro-folk, chamber op and trip-hop. But Boomer Studies was a chance to strip it down and reflect. Their 2006 self-titled album received accolades from Nic Harcourt, Chris Douridas and others and continues to receive support on KCRW.

Soular was a 3-piece group playing original rock music with heavy doses of funk, jazz, and other influences.  Having played around Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia for 6 years (in the deep '90s), the group attracted a diverse fan-base and their live shows were always a spectacle, from subtle and soulful, to excitable and stupid.

The Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council contributed to Soular's resume with the following comments: "Soular's live show reflects an extensive amount of experience and talent.  This band is dedicated to their work and so their performance is engaging and entertaining."

The Mid Eastern Shore Artist's Foundation commented: "Their diversity and personalized style of music is both original and experienced.  The public enjoys the rhythmic nature and most can't resist dancing to their music."

Soular entered the studio on 4 occasions; recording 3 EPs and 1 LP.  This Soundcloud site catalogs all but 1 of the EPs because I am working on obtaining quality mp3s of the EP that's come to be called "Soular's Third".  On this site, you can find the original demo (never titled), as well as the album-length effort entitled "Deep Dark Water".  Finally, Soular's final EP is also here.  Its production was troubled as it was recorded smack-dab in the middle of Soular's members amicably, yet busily, going their separate ways, yet the EP is a tiny concept-album containing the pinnacle of Soular's experience.  Titled "Me in 4D", it is an abstract love story that spans several lifetimes; exploring themes of reincarnation and reality.

Soular's tunes also enjoyed some regional radio play such as WSUR in Salisbury, MD and WZBH in Ocean City.  Soular also performed live on WZBH.  The band was never asked to return because Chuck used the F-word on the air and the sponsors got upset.

While Andreas Rosenhahn (HiFi Brown) absorbs himself in a crackling vibrating sphere of sound created with records, effects and distorted beats, Tobias Vethake (Sicker Man) envelops the music with his barrage of instruments including cello, guitar, prepared guitars and basses, synthesizers, toys and more
The result is something between ambient punk, improvised soundscape and odd hymns to the flow of depression.
