Welcome to Episode 1 of 'New Music Energy' - my new radio show dedicated entirely to new music. 

Since finishing my BBC Residency, and having pretty much all my gigs cancelled this year, I haven't had as many opportunities as usual to share my favourite music with the world! I know I have my NTS show but that often has different themes and I just wanted a space where I could focus on new artists and releases. So here it is...!

Over the past 22 years I have been recording & adding to a mixtape series begun in 1998 in San Francisco. I started putting together selections from the deeper, “late night” end of my record collection that almost never made their way onto regular DJ mixtapes we were all making in the late nineties. Back in the day before Uber, all those after-hours minicab rides in London were sound tracked by African & Caribbean pirate radio stations playing the most incredible Downtempo Soul, R&B, Roots and Gospel. For me, the better the DJ, the slower BPM they would have the guts to play. And here in London even today, generally speaking, the blacker the party, the slower the music ( and inevitably, the hotter the vibes )…a simple equation really. This 33 hours worth of music features tracks from every genre and every era……the only thing they all have in common is that they would sound pretty dam good at 8am Sunday morning in the back of a minicab on Coldharbour Lane, Brixton.

Second part of my 9 hours vinyl only set from this special night. First part was more banging one, this one is more housey & eclectic and it gets wiiild in the end. You’ll here more of my favorite records like S.E.X. by Omar S or Paul Kalkbrenner Gebrünn Gebrünn back from 2005, to name a few. This one gives me goosebumps everytime I play it. So many good memories from this night, tune in - It’s 7:30 in the morning, club is still packed…
