Here we are ! Volume 100 ! It had to be a little special and after reflection, I said to myself that doing a "best of" tracks that I do not get tired and that always give me as much pleasure would not be a bad idea ... The problem is that my 99 sets represent a total of nearly 1600 tracks. So I restricted the selection to the maximum and I arrived at 264 titles! I worked hard to achieve the best mixing possible, but sometimes the original ones in my sets were already perfect then I kept them for this anniversary session. I started mixing this Volume 100 in February 2018, every night when I had some free time, 10 months after it is almost finished and will in all be more than 15 hours long ! So I cut it into 8 parts of about 2 hours that I would publish on Soundcloud every 2 weeks. The whole set will no doubt not be accepted by any site because too long and bulky, we will see that later. In any case, it will be available for download (WeTransfert?) as soon as the 8 parts have been published on Soundcloud.

I would also like to take advantage of this volume 100 to thank above all, all those who create, remix, produce and arrange these tracks and for some revive vinyls more than 30-40 years after their original releases ! Thank you to all who like and especially comment on my sets, it is what give me the most pleasure, especially on the mixing because it is where the real work is. For the titles that I choose, we must congratulate / thank their authors, not me ;) Thanks again to all who give me donations, not to mention all those who repost on Soundcloud or share on Twitter and Facebook. Thanks also to Native Instrument and their program Traktor without which the practice of imagination and creativity in the mix would not have been possible.

Thanks to you all the statistics of my sessions impress myself (for a DJ in his small apartment), nearly 1,300,000+ plays on various platforms, including 850,000 on Soundcloud and most of the rest on YouTube. It's also 34,000+ likes on Soundcloud, 40,000+ downloads and more than 16,000 comments ....

I still do not know to what I owe this success. What is know is that I have always tried to distinguish myself by the quality of the mix, avoiding the ease of mixing outro beats into intro beats that the computer can do for you and that brings no creativity. It is also necessary to adapt the phrasing, the structure and to edit certain pieces so that the mix is as perfect as possible. For me the goal is that each mix, when I listen again, I say Wow ! This is not always the case but I always try to be close .. That's why the art of harmonic mixing is much more interesting and gives much more pleasure and emotions, as well to realize it as to listen to the result. I sometimes have to try more than 50 tracks before finding one that can mix structure and harmonic with the previous one ... Of course it takes time but is in my opinion really worth it . Some titles are also edited/shortened because I delete all the unnecessarily repetitive parts of the songs. The only drawback of a quality mix is that the more it will be close to perfection, the least it will be noticed (for most people)

The idea behind my page is to log and showcase the music that has influenced me over the last 35+ years so that my daughter, Ebony, can listen to ‘olden day’ music and hopefully appreciate how good we had it. 

Having learnt my craft in the late 80’s at the age of 12 and teaching myself how to beat match on 1200’s within a week, I felt I had a knack for this DJ’ing thing way before it became fashionable. I would class myself as quite a versatile DJ able to lend my hand to most genres. Hopefully all those years of bedroom mixing and house parties have paid off…but that’s up to you to decide. 

I attempt to capture a constant energy in my mixes regardless of genre and am always a firm believer that the mix is as important as the track itself. I endeavour to create seamless transitions whilst maintaining the energy. During longer mixes a welcome switch in style is sometimes required. In fact different genres warrant different styles of mixing, in my opinion. And monotonous sets do nothing for me. Up and down, peaks and troughs, it’s all about building the listener up and letting them down gently.

Never one to choose tracks based on their popularity or current chart position, I hand pick the tunes I mix because I think they’ll stand the test of time. The idea being that during any of my sets I can pick a point and know I’ll dig that track or mix. Although digitally digging isn’t as rewarding as finding physical vinyl records for me, it is a whole lot easier. That said there are a lot of below par tunes out there to sift through before finding worthy tracks. Then the set process begins…I just approach it as a musical jigsaw.

Anyway, enough about me. Whether you’re getting ready to go out for the night, cleaning the kitchen or in the car, turn it up, get in the groove and I hope you enjoy the vibes  😎
