The EP’s third and final newcomer comes in the form of another relatively new unearthed gem, Birmingham’s Richard Wright. Despite producing on and off since 2005, COVID and the resulting lockdowns allowed him the time and headspace to start taking things a bit more seriously. Initially being unearthed with his first official release in February 2021 by UKG label Strictly Flava. From that release and the early send out of ‘Trust Meh’ he has already received plays across Rinse, Balami and SWU with support from the likes of this EP’s very own Gemi as well as Ollie Rant, Daffy, Chimpizm and a bag of other UKG producers who are leading the line nicely for underground UKG.

Hearing ‘Trust Meh’ with its winding low end, classic samples and 2 step drums it's not hard to understand how his inspiration came from the tape pack and record shop culture of the mid 90s to early 2000s. With the recent resurgence of pioneers like El-B and new school producers embracing the UKG and Breaks movement that alone was enough to make the Brummy producer get his skates on and start getting some projects exported out his PC and making 2022 the year he starts to push on with his 15+ years of experience in the DAW.

After mastering the fields of jazz infused deep house, Edward White flexes his ability to produce within the realms of UK bass with an explosive four-track E.P.

I Get Cake touches all corners of the UKG scene, presenting bass heavy dancefloor wreckers, as well as soulful two-step chops where influences from White’s experience in deep house can be heard through expansive soundscapes.

The project opens up with a driving two-step rhythm with cheeky vocal jitters from all over the underground scene. Whilst paying homage to some iconic sounds of garage, the production remains fresh with carefully crafted sound design intended to keep feet shuffling from start to finish.

I Get Cake, the primary track of the E.P can be described as nothing short of bliss. An irresistibly groovy synth melody is layered upon floaty padwork and swirling soundscapes. With all aspects within this expansive sound palette merging so effortlessly, it is clear to see why the E.P is dedicated to this soon to be anthem.

The Things You Make Me Do is a perfect example of White’s ability to infuse his deep house roots with the sounds of UKG. Growling saw bass patterns and a funky two-step rhythm are kept flowing with seductive vocals and climbing plucks. Whether on a sunlit terrace or as the final track of an after hours party, The Things You Make Me Do is bound to bring a sense of euphoria to all its listeners.

The E.P finishes with a bang, as Good 2 U propels listeners with a speedy, break infused footwork weapon. Perfectly balancing a club driven sound with ambient atmospheric synth work, this versatile tack is a hidden gem for any DJ’s catalogue.

Edward White’s ability to conquer both explosive bass orientated club heaters, as well as deep and melodic euphoric rhythms, demonstrates why he is a strong addition to the UK bass scene. I Get Cake is a triumphant release for the artist and is sure to get its recognition from some of the biggest names in the game.

On this track, the trio take us on a trip to Chicago, with the prohibition atmosphere of a jazz bar and the bounce of an electro club.
