Around 2007 i was invited to contribute to a brilliant Bob Marley tribute album that was being planned by Palm Pictures, a sub label of Island Records i believe at the time. What the producer of the project did not want was a bunch of reggae remixes, so we were encouraged to try something fresh and inventive. I paired up with Canadian First Nations recording artist Wayne Lavallee (Métis) as we crafted a stirring and deeply funky reversion of 'Buffalo Soldier'. To say that the collaboration was a deeply moving experience would be an understatement. This is a new guitar based song written for a Christmas benefit compilation called 'Rhymes with Elf'. The proceeds from the sale of the cd will go to benefit 2 Guelph Ontario based organizations (Guelph Youth Music Centre and Ed Video Media Arts). This track represents a return to my first love, straight up pop songwriting. I sing and play all the instruments and recorded and produced the track at The Monastereo.

Juno-nominated Canadian producer, musician and DJ Rise Ashen returns to Eccodek’s world after contributing a killer downtempo mix to the Remixtasy project. The selfconfessed B-boy has reworked tracks for Bebel Gilberto, Duke Ellington, Bombay Dub Orchestra, Issa Bagayogo and many others. His love of house music and dance culture anchors his musical voice and that is no more evident than in this deep house flavoured remix of 'The big man'.

There is the deliciously dubwise, future-sound of Canadian producer earlyW~rm, whose take on ‘The End Begins’ feels like it was cooked up in Lee Scratch Perry’s Black Ark studio with Mad Professor making baked beans in the tape room. In his own words,“earlyW~Rm penetrates dub’s atmosphere armed with only a laptop, Moonboots and a desire to create analogue sounding dirty dub.” A Canadian based digi-dub producer, earlyW~rm is inspired by the masters but led by technology and his love of 70s dub, 80s digital and hip-hop. His sonically rich, weed-soaked take on Eccodek’s The end begins is a headphone expanding musical adventure and makes a strong case for Toronto’s direct cultural lineage to Jamaica. This is dubwise.

The UK’s Dub Colossus brings their dreamy, cinematic Ethiopia-infused dub and space sonics to ‘Singing in Tongues'. Dub Colossus is Britain’s Nick Page (aka Dubulah), composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and programmer. Nick is a co-founder of Transglobal Underground, Temple of Sound, Syriana and an in demand producer with strong ties to the Real
World Records family. With Dub Colossus, his passion for classic roots dub and the sounds of Ethiopia have produced 3 near classic albums of global fusion. Leaning on his intuitive sense of space, reverence for the cultural source and signature spy-movie guitar stylings, Nick has crafted a beautiful downtempo interpretation of the title track from Eccodek’s 2014 studio release, Singing in tongues.

The title track from our 2015 Juno-nominated album, this is a tour de force for the album's featured singer, Jah Youssouf. A native of Bamako Mali, Jah's energetic performance is the glue in this Afrobeat-tinged, funk-fuelled workout.

The two artists agreed that if they were going to do this many remixes together, the album would have to include an original co-write.  Andrew McPherson's (aka Eccodek) classicist arrangement, subtle dub and textural production touches provide a hypnotic and unfolding music landscape for Lenka Lichtenberg's plaintive and intimate vocal. A beautiful elegaic musical prayer with piano and voice at its core.

Eccodek has emerged as one of the leading lights in the global electronic scene. Based in Canada, the project is guided by producer, multi-instrumentalist and remixer, Andrew McPherson. From its humble beginnings in early 2002, the band has gone on to release 5 albums, including their recent searing, live recording, Living for Live. Their blend of dub, funk, jazz and cinematic electronics, alongside stunning vocal and instrumental performances by an ever deepening well of cultural collaborators, has put them at the top of the world fusion scene. With 3 releases on U.S.'s White Swan Records and numerous releases through Real World Records, Six Degrees, Buddha Bar and more, Eccodek continues to push the fusion vibe in new and exciting directions.

2011's Remixtasy saw the band's earlier work remixed by a tastemaker's list of producers, reimagining tracks from More Africa in Us, Voices Have Eyes and the Juno-nominated Shivaboom. Heavyweights like Transglobal Underground, Six Degrees' Jef Stott, Dubmatix, EarthRise SoundSystem, Real World's Syriana, Adham Shaikh and Delhi 2 Dublin's TSpoon created fresh interpretations of Eccodek's catalogue. Eccodek mainman Andrew McPherson gave the redux treatment to 2 radical redubs from the first album - an Afrobeat throwdown and a sensuous Steppers dub odyssey. A great way to celebrate 10 years.... but sights are now set on the release of their 4th studio album in spring 2013. (a stunning collaboration with Malian griot Jah Youssouf) There's no telling what exotic shore the Eccodek mothership will wash up on next.
