With the necessary vinyl reissue of Not Waving’s sophomore solo LP Redacted (2013), Alessio Natalizia reminds us of his nascent psychedelic side in light of his lucid, skizzo deviations on the Animals album for Diagonal. While there’s a mutual sense of technoid momentum to both albums, Redacted is a far gauzier, freeform and sensual beast; one richly steeped in proto/post-club atmospheres and allowing his imagination to run away with itself.

Conceptually, Redacted pursues the “classified” themes of his Remote Viewing-inspired Umwelt (2013) LP into even murkier departments, drawing subtly ‘marish parallels between the cold war atmospheres that birthed original post punk, industrial and proto-techno, and the current pallor of socio-political unrest that pervades our present situation.

Omitting the original tape’s expansive closer for the sake of a single LP cut, this vinyl version plays out like an alternative soundtrack to scenes in the overgrown, radioactive zones of Tarkovsky’s Stalker, using an anachronistic palette of analogue machinery to emphasise a sense of fluid, shimmering motion and out-of-place-and-timelessness that genuinely goes straight to the head with trippy effect. 

Swampy slow techno horror themes vacillate with decayed pastoral panoramas and windows of synthetic optimism, both lush and disquietingly needling, using dissonance and sweeps of hazy noise to ultimately spell out a foreboding but dreamlike sort of electronic subterfuge and suspense that resonates with the nostalgic Stranger Things score as much as Leyland Kirby’s Intrigue & Stuff series.

Planet earth, five decades after, watching some images of itself peaking over the moon’s horizon, captured for the first time by human beings from Apollo 8 on 1968. This time inside its room, in front of a screen.

The univers, balancing every single cell of each living creature inside of it, exchanging the cosmic addresses between them. Somewhere in the galaxy, on the balance named equilibrium of earth’s biosphere, exalted nature on one side, and extracted nature on the other side.

Unnumbered creatures have been sent to the univers recently. What are the destinations of those souls? Perhaps they will come back for a visit as an April Lyrid, one day.

Meanwhile, take some vibarations and melodies as healing pills.

Through diverse pictorial practices, she uses a minimalist vocabulary of geometric shapes and fictional concrete poetries to explore the sonority of non-material illusions. By using combinations between analog synthesizers, contemporary sound technologies and artificial intelligence, the music scores ---- collected datas and visual objects, are translated into sounds, installations and performances.

The contemporary environmental issues we face - pollution, global warming, extinction of species, etc. - are insufficiently expressed and conceptualised in the musical world, despite the fact that many artists have strong ecological convictions. Echo of Species is a place where they will take turns, each contributing a chapter to this deep listening story, by grasping climate urgency and proposing their artistic vision, without boundaries. A podcast series where each episode features an artist's unique selection of music interlaced with spoken words about the ecological collapse, from speeches, archives or recordings. The musical atmosphere can broadly be defined as experimental, from a wide spectrum of classical, ambient, psychedelic & electronic music styles. The artists help to craft the line-up and participate in the curation process. Like a relay race, they will pass the baton of conscience onto the next composer, thereby adding an element of unknown to the collection. The musician takes on the role of a trans-disciplinary agent of change, touching upon the feelings and emotions of the listener. Our aim is to ease the emotional bond between ourselves and nature. Through the eyes of these artists and their aesthetic response to the irreversible sixth mass extinction, we aspire to drive the catalyst that may prick our collective consciousness. Let's dive into this creative emulation and question ourselves. The clock is ticking.
