Behind Giant Baba hides the multi instrumentalist Geneva based Sebastien Favez, veteran in the Swiss experimental scene since mid 90’s. His passion for horror movies (and cats) leads to his first 2 tracks release on Sphearic Records as a tribute to Dario Argento’s work. Composed back in 2017, these two cinematic analog pieces come with an euphoric remix from The Dude Of Stratosphear, who navigate on a coastal landscape like in a vintage racing game.

After a long process, we managed to get in touch with an Australian
four-piece that went by the name of Boxcar from 86-92, producing a lot of music ahead of its time. They’ve recently started re-issuing their songs with modern producers on remix duty and after asking Romain FX to work on a remix, it was only natural that Fauve Records
would work on a limited-edition vinyl-only release with a stellar cast.
For this edition, we have asked some of the coolest cats in the game to hand us a remix with their specific touch and an array of bangers came about. Donald’s House with a rave house-inspired remix, Fabrizio Mammarella with a more EBM/Italo touch, Jonny Rock with a dubby finger- licking-good take, and of course Romain FX with an
intergalactic voyage.

PREMIERE : Boxcar - Comet (Jonny Rock Micky The Meteor Remix)

For those not familiar with the history of dinosaurs, the giant reptiles were crazy for Balearic grooves. Those who managed to flee to outer space before the fateful mass extinction event claim that the big comet hit in the middle of a massive Jurassic luau. At that time, Ibiza-based duo Residentes Balearicos didn’t exist, but their music would certainly conquer the hearts and minds of the clade Dinosauria.

Their forthcoming “Mediterraneo” EP, soon available on the Spanish label Balearic Ensemble in digital and vinyl formats, is a “treasury of wonderful, eclectic dancing music of the highest Balearic order”, wrote Mikey Sibson in the PR text of the release that comes with not one, but two sunny & breezy interpretations of “Mojada” made with love by Das Komplex (SXDNS029): First, a remix; and second, a tropical and mojito-infused Pineapple Bonus Mix.

Premiered here, the remix brings the trippy and mesmerizing original to a more cosmic realm, kind of invoking the early days of Baldelli’s Astro-Funky/Afro-Freestyle with its (incredible amount of) percussive elements, vocal hooks, and distorted riffs. Pure bliss!

ECLECTICS RELEASE OCIO DE HOY EP BY CANEBRAKE 

Straddling styles and formats like a Balearic Colossus, Eclectics come correct once again. With ‘Ocio de Hoy’ by Canebrake, you get both a digital and vinyl release of a pitch-perfect EP that will worm its way into your ears and earn a place in your heart. 

Two searing originals leading the charge while two carefully crafted remixes cover the ground left unchartered is fast becoming the M.O. for the Bournemouth-based Balearic label. 
This EP, from Canebrake Sam Bruce (AKA Mallorquin), is no exception.  

“Borne Upriver” opens proceedings with bursts of bass tentatively testing the water. Once we’re ready to dive in and go with the flow, we’re rewarded with guitar licks full of crisp lines and delay that repays again and again as the pedal shows its mettle. 
If you need a steer as you drift downstream, think of the Idjut Boys jamming with Pete Shelley. But with all the rough lines delicately rubbed out. 

Eclectics mainstay James Bright throws caution to the wind as he finds a new tributary and sails upstream powered by disco drums and piercing acid lines. Snatches of guitar and cleverly handled melody mutations let us know that it’s the same vessel, but taken in a new, exciting direction.  

The second original, “Contento de Saber”, puts us on a firmer footing as the bass goes deep to take root while an 808 snare leads the way to the dancefloor. It combines classic sounds and elemental building blocks, to create something new, yet familiar. Searing synths, persuasive percussion and laid-back guitarist side-by-side, never overwhelming, complementing rather than competing. It is, to use the parlance of the age, an absolute banger.     

Another friend of the label, Joe Morris, takes up remix duties on “Contento…” and conjures up the kind of exotic, intricately patterned musical topography that has become his fingerprint - a sonic seal of quality. 

If you’re looking for something to leave you rocking and reeling between the dark and the dawn, this EP has it all - music for the day and the night, the sun and the shade, the body and the soul.
