Eclectique Podcast series introduces: Röskva @user-8664795


Passionate for classical piano since she was 7 and raised surrounded by the influences of Punk, gravitating towards concerts and band rehearsals thanks to her father and uncle, Tanya Pollock a.k.a Röskva is an electronic musician and a Völva from Iceland, who was always taught to go her own way.

During the early 90's, at the age of 12, Tanya together with her cousin Marlon Pollock, started developing great interest for hardware drum machines, synthesizers, Drum N' Bass music and soon after, by the time she was living in the US with her parents, Old Skool Hardcore took over her mind. During that period of time, Tanya and Marlon would send tapes to each other with groundbreaking music, one of them being "ICERAVE", a compilation full of rave breaks made by some of the hottest Icelandic electronic musicians from 1992. That tape, led her to start experimenting with the genre, cutting beats from artists like Biogen and Thor from the collaborative project "Ajax", making her own versions of the tracks that inspired her to keep making electronic music.

Marlon has been her main music partner from the very beginning. At 14, they were already collaborating using the name Anonymous, alias under which at 16 they debuted as the supporting act for Sigur Rós, subsequently being invited several times to form part of the line up from the renowned festival Iceland Airwaves since 1999. A few years later they evolved to "PLX" a.k.a Tanya & Marlon, a moniker under which they released their colorful IDM and Ambient debut EP called "Quillock" on Möller Records in 2012. Today they keep creating new music as Röskva & Svartikaldur.

Tanya has been hosting electronic music ceremonies since over 20 years, including the Iconic Weirdcore nights in Reykjavik, founded in 2006 by herself and the legend Sigurbjörn Þorgrímsson a.k.a Biogen, to bring back together the Icelandic electronic music scene after a quiet period in the beginning of the new millenium. Eventually Weirdcore ended up hosting the first Airwaves event dedicated to Icelandic electronic music in 2010.


In more recent years, Pollock spent time writing a personal (musical) journal, making music she initially had no intention to release, but to use as a way to channel and translate ineffable feelings into sound and process past experiences in her life. That diary would later become her debut album "Laug", released on December 1st of 2020 under her alias, Röskva.

This week's Local Selection is from Dublin native and rising DJ and producer Aoise, as we invite her to soundtrack your Wednesday afternoon.

The young DJ and producer is a graduate of the Sunil Sharpe, Doug Cooney and DeFeKT school of excellence, having studied DJ techniques and music production at BIFE. There have been many high hitters to come from this course and after hearing Aoise's take on tunes we look forward to what's in store for her.

Her sound stems from dark, dubby techno that has developed and matured through the years, taking inspiration from the likes of Ø [Phase], Sterac, Oscar Mulero and Sleeparchive. 

Having shared lineups with some of Europe's heavy hitters Christoph Faust (FKA Inhalt Der Nacht), Sunil Sharpe, Tommy Holohan and Shampain, we expect to see much more of her in the future. 

You can catch Aoise supporting Clouds this Friday in Dublin, plus at the Life Festival launch party on April 29th in Mullingar.

Eclectique event is gathering from 20 to 30 artists, featuring a diverse and gender-balanced line up of international and local artists.

During ours one night, we offer an immersive experience to our guests by mixing different forms of arts,  presenting A/V lives, modular lives and DJ sets, as well as VJing, art exhibitions, interactive visual installations, and dance performances.

The keywords of this one night are a combination of knowledge, music performance, visual arts, sciences, and experimentations.
