It was my sincere pleasure to play for the 11th anniversary of Ecstatic Dance Lisboa! A radiant crowd of 150 people dancing, going crazy. This was a true 2-hour long explosion (with some integrative moments). THANK YOU!

It’s such a pleasure to introduce the 1st Portuguese artist to the series, and what better way to celebrate than a mixtape by BirdZzie. You see, a producer and dj who has been reached by labels like Voodoohop, Tropical Twista and Casa Caos must have good stories to tell.

His tale for ecos del mundo lets us visit ethereal places and states of mind, shifting our mood for the better. The quality of a mix being eclectic is something we always look forward to.

For two millennia, the Olmec civilization lay forgotten beneath the jungles of Veracruz and the ruins of subsequent Mesoamerican cities. 

One early theme that was identified, was the half-man half-jaguar form known as the “Were-Jaguar”. The “Were-Jaguar” is most easily identified by its human-like form combined with a down-turned mouth, an elongated feline snout and a cleft head, which features an “X” shaped cross in its right eye, which is a common glyph in Olmec art. 

The meaning of the “X” is not entirely clear, as it is used in many different contexts and research hasn’t settled on a single meaning. Here it would seem most obvious that it symbolizes blindness or death of the eye. 

However, it could mean the complete opposite, for the “X” is often seen on the attire of the Were-Jaguar and other deities, where it is believed to symbolize the underworld2. With the jaguar having been revered for its nocturnal prowess, it may be that the “X” signifies the ability to see in the darkness of the underworld.

Pre-Welcoming the new year and decade with a very special Ecstatic Dance and Cacao Ceremony with Mridu & Poliana. We named this session “Dancing Hearts” cause that was ;-). 

We opened the space with a beautiful Cacao Ceremony held by Poliana, Nurturing, Meditative, Organic, welcoming and thanking mother earth for her fruits. Then Mridu took it over in a 2 hours Ecstatic Dance Session. He traveled us with sounds from far India to US Electronic deep baselines to Gabrielle Roth’s inspiring and awakening “Tsunami” landing us to Greek sounds from Kristi Stasinopoulou, Greekadelia, ConWerteR and Manos Xatzidakis. Closing with a tribute / invitation to / from Ram Dass “i am a loving awareness”. nothing More nothing Less Happy Now Here and a New Decade, Namaste.
