La Criatura is Christian Perez, bass (USA), Santi Rapallo, vibes and percussion (Spain), Ged Barry, saxes, flute (England), Ainara LeGardon, voice (Basque Country) and Paloma Carrasco, cello (Spain).
La Criatura came to life in 2010 after Christian and Ged met during the Hurta Cordel improvisational music festival while attending a workshop given by Josep Balanyá. They decided to meet regularly to conduct musical experiments, and when Santi joined them, the new sound that emerged from the trio came together in unexpected ways. They decided to call it La Criatura, reflecting the fact that the music had a life of its own. In 2011, Ainara and Paloma joined in, making the lineup a quintet.
Their music is influenced by the New York school of John Cage, Morton Feldman, composer R. Murray Schafer, free jazz, and experimental avant-rock groups like Henry Cow, Throbbing Gristle, and Can. They use a wide range of open-ended compositional strategies to guide improvisation and spontaneity, employing graphic scores, hand signals, and various other rules and guidelines that drive--but do not uniquely determine--the outcome of the performance.
Always striving to surprise themselves and the audience with an uncompromisingly modern sound, La Criatura takes its music to the brink of the unknown.

La Criatura cobró vida en 2010 después de que Christian y Ged se conocieran durante el festival Hurta Cordel de música improvisada mientras asistían a un taller impartido por Josep-Maria Balanyá. Tomaron la decisión de reunirse periódicamente para llevar a cabo experimentos musicales, y cuando Santi se unió a ellos, del trío surgió un nuevo sonido inesperado. Decidieron adoptar el nombre de La Criatura, reflejando el hecho de que la música tenía una vida propia. En 2011, Ainara y Paloma se unieron al grupo, dando forma al quinteto actual.
