This song started off many years ago with a band called "Latella".  Vocalist Joe Flesch wrote the lyrics and bassist/guitarist/songwriter Matty Harper wrote the original guitar parts under the lyrics.  When I joined the band, I added the Em-C section in the middle and a second acoustic part to compliment Matt's original guitar line under the lyrics.  Both acoustic parts have now been combined into one in this adaptation.  The Em-C section in the middle went through a few transitions and at one time had an extended David Gilmore style guitar solo that was really cool, and one of the reasons I wanted to remake this song.  When recording this remake, I decided to add just a little something more to that middle section.  This took on a life of its  own and the guitar solo just didn't seem to work anymore so I took in another direction.
Vocalist,  Joe Flesch, has since left the world of rock, has been born again, and is now a minister.  He occasionally picks up his acoustic and sings for his church.  Matty Harper left music behind as well for a while, but that was just to smoke shit load of pot.  He still has some serious bass chops though and he will soon be featured in some upcoming tracks.  I have another track posted here called "We are" in which you can hear Matt's bass chops from years ago.

A song about the people who come and go in our  lives.  Some of them stick around for a while, some share a road with you for some time and then go away on their own path.  We cross paths with them again sometimes.  Some leave this world forever and are never gotten, we’ll see them on the other side some day.  No matter what path you take, rock on!

Matty Harper (aka Gedd Flea) is featured on bass for this track.  He's an old friend of mine from when I lived in NY.  Matt recently visited for a week while we laid tracks during the day and hit the bars for open mics each night.  This song is a product of that week.

Rock On

People naturally follow, conform the majority, and this has allowed us to evolve and survive together as a species.  Throughout history it has also made groups of people vulnerable to totalitarian rule that tends to help the ruling class more than the people, when the people are complacent and don't realize their position until it is too late.  While there may be some parallels to governments in the world today, this song is inspired by this "cost of complacency" throughout history rather than any specific events today.

Cost of complacency

"Wants you to know" is one written for the ladies.  It is a post-breakup song about a strong, bright, beautiful, and confident woman who's been hurt, broken, and moved on.  She leaves town and leaves the past behind her but she isn't running away, she's running to her future and on to amazing things.

The lyrics starts off with a brand new day, going out for a ride in a hot car and feeling good.  In the second verse, she's leaving town but she's not running away.   She's "running to her future" and doing so with a new tattoo.  People tend to get tattoos for meaningful things and changes in their life.  She's making a big change and moving on to bigger and better things.  When the chorus comes in at the end, we learn that she threw away everything she was given in that bad relationship, the memories have gone away so whoever hurt her means nothing to her now, and she wants someone to know.

Billie and Finneas have a good thing going, they're writing good music and have an original style.  Just about all of Billie's vocals are a whisper though.  As if the screaming girls at a show aren't enough, Billie is whispering and you can't friggin' hear her.  That's right folks, I went to a Billie Eilish show!  I saw her last show of the 2020 tour just before the pandemic shut down the world.  I respect all music and I have two daughters.  So back to my point, I wanted to do one of her songs where the vocals weren't whispered and there was  no doubt they could be heard.  I took one of her quietest songs and "sharpened" it.  I hope you enjoy it.

"Don't let your bitch run large" has been incorrectly  stamped with an "Explicit" label by Apple Music.  For those who actually listen to it, here's the story behind this song.

A friend of mine was dating a lawyer and one day she shared with him a screen shot of her world, an NC Statute she came across that reads as follows.

67-2. Permitting bitch at large.

If any person owning or having any bitch shall knowingly permit her to run at large during the erotic stage of copulation he shall be guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor. (1862-3, c. 41, s. 2; Code, s. 2501; Rev., s. 3303; C.S., s. 1670; 1993, c. 539, s. 529; 1994, Ex. Sess., c. 24, s. 14(c).)

He knew I would love it, shared her picture with me, and I immediately said "that's a song".  

I was already messing around with the guitar part on my twelve-string, wrote the lyrics for it, and a day or two later "Don't let your bitch run large” ￼was born.  

My original recording was done all on the twelve-string but it didn’t sound right to me.  So I opted to re-record with a warm sounding Martin six-string and added a new twelve-string track to back it up.

This year we were introduced to social distancing and basically confined to our homes while our social lives were shutdown.  For some of us it was hell and for others it's just another day.  We learned what it is like to live in quarantine like we have a disease.  Some always live that way and some like it that way, others just need a hello.

A friend of mine called me with this problem one day, and I'm not the sensitive type who is good at giving people advice on their problems. It turns out him and his wife were partying with some friends one night and after everyone went home, one girl remained. One thing lead to another and his wife brought the girl into their bed that night. Now keep in mind, this guy is calling me because he's upset about this. Apparently it continued when he wasn't around. He'd leave for work out the front door, the wife would bring her her girlfriend in the back door.
He told me "this is serious, it may ruin our marriage". I thought about it and said "you know, this would be a great song." So here you go. . .

My objective of this song is to rock.  It's a great song for me to practice and record my vocals, record some powerful guitars and bass and some kicking drums.  It was a great Ramones tune that didn't mean anything, and one I enjoyed adding my own touches to.  There's no more political or racial message intended by me than there was by The Ramones when they wrote it in 1981.  
Now that we have that out of the way, let's rock!

Independent artist making songs that rock.

I don’t know about you but I miss hearing songs that just rock.  A couple of guitars, bass, drums, vocals, and harmonies make such a powerful combination.  It’s this power and energy that I’m after in the songs I record.
I perform all parts on these recordings unless otherwise specified. I’m primarily a guitar player and never considered myself a singer but I started doing it to complete my songs and I may be finding a voice for myself.
I’m open to collaboration so reach out if you’d like to work on some tracks.  I don’t have any rap on my tracks, don’t listen to much rap, but I have a couple of incomplete songs I’m interested in brining some rap into.  So let me know if any of you rappers want to collaborate with a rocker.
