#SustyTalk: What every business needs to know about carbon accounting in 2025

EU lawmakers recently voted to significantly reduce the scope of the bloc’s flagship sustainability reporting and corporate due diligence laws, dramatically reducing the number of businesses likely to be impacted.

The specifics of what each impacted business will need to publish, and to what timelines, has also been altered.

These moves, made under the Omnibus package, come as the UK is firming up its own sustainability reporting standards in line with the work of the International Sustainability Standards Board.

For any sustainability or compliance professional impacted by the changes, recent months have therefore brought their fair share of headaches.

How can businesses respond proactively? In this new episode of edie Extra, edie’s content editor Sarah George puts this question to Tim Lambert, Osapiens’ regional lead for the UK, Ireland and the Nordics.

Tim draws on findings from the recent ‘State of Sustainability Reporting in the UK’ research from Osapiens, which polled 150 senior decision-makers across a range of sectors.

In the latest episode of the edie Extra podcast, edie’s content editor Sarah George is in conversation with Zurich Resilience Solutions’ UK lead for climate resilience and sustainability, Andrew Forsyth.

Andrew shares his learnings from helping hundreds of businesses to map and manage growing climate-related risks to their operations and global supply chains.

Almost half (44.5%) of businesses reported moderate or significant impacts on their supply chains from climate-related events between 2018 and 2023, according to the Business Continuity Institute (BCI).

But more than half of businesses (51%) do not have a dedicated budget to manage this risk. And most firms still have extremely poor visibility of their supply chains beyond Tier One.
