Mass Mechanics EP | NWHR & Jose Pouj

The 1st of April next month marks two years since the birth of mould.audio. For this occasion we have the pleasure of presenting the second instalment on our Collector's Series on the the label which was launched in November 2021.
[mldcs002] embodies Ruben Ganev's evolution into a deeper creative mindset and technical workflow. The project consists of four nocturnal constructs, which all together form a sonic trek which serves as a grounding tool for the body and the mind and thus continues the plot from the first instalment on the Collector’s Series [mldcs001].

The first ambient piece “Transition” serves as a prelude to the EP and the inspiration behind it is an ambient project made in 2003 by Virginia Zaharieva. The heart of the project, called House of Medusa, is a Roman Water Cistern in Istanbul’s Basilica, a place which gives us the vivid feeling of distance and space. It creates the sense of residing on a windy interplanetary station, or in catacombs where people and otherworldly creatures roam. A place which compliments the ones who are brave enough to meet their fears through embracing the unveiled shadows lurking in them to eventually illuminate a space for individual expression.

The second piece “Circuits” unfolds the sense of space created in the overture and evolves into sonic formations inspired by elemental natural disasters such as thunderstorms, earthquakes or witnessing magnetic or electro-static occurrences on a bigger scale. A combinational blend of poly-rhythmic structures serve as soil for sonic elements which symbolise such forces in the distance which are beyond our control. Thus the piece explores a realm in which there is a relationship between what can be “expected” and this which can not be foreseen, relating to the same occurrences in nature. Predictable, and yet only to an extent.

The third piece “Remnant” is about the archetypal journey of the hero: contrasts, challenges, losses, sacrifices and victories.
Remnant reflects what is left after all obstacles and what makes us worthy of an existence in a better world.

The fourth and last piece of the EP is a composition which also uses contrast in search of equilibrium.
“Navigator” is a ticket to another constellation of sounds, and with its tribal feel and warm low-end groove, it prepares us for a giant leap.

Today we welcome another friend of the series for a podcast debut! Koot (full name Sander Koot) is a DJ from our hometown of Utrecht. Not for long though, as he will be moving to Rotterdam next week.

He has been in love with clubbing and techno for a very long time, but he is relatively new to DJ'ing himself. As clubs were closed during the pandemic, he decided to express his love for techno by picking up a mixer and some turntables in december 2020. Teaching himself how to beatmatch as a vinyl-only DJ took many, many hours but he enjoyed every minute of it! 

Koot recently upgraded his setup to include two digital players, which he uses alongside his beloved vinyl collection. After upgrading to a multi-deck setup, he started practicing with three decks at once to try and reproduce the heavy, layered techno experience that he loves to hear in the club. As you may be able to tell by the tracks used in this mix, Koot takes inspiration from DJ's/Producers such as Nørbak, Lewis Fautzi, Reeko, Tensal/Kessell (Exium) and off course Oscar Mulero (the cat chilling in the background of his picture is called Mulero actually). 

Appreciate this fine mixing on 3 decks flawlessly mixing vinyl and digital tracks into a dark, deep yet energising mix!

We are delighted to introduce you LKY  a DJ/Producer from the UK who has been strongly shaped by the UK techno scene through running his own events, DJing and writing music since 2012. His style has naturally progressed towards the driving and hypnotic style of the genre building energy throughout. Born in the UK, Nathan Lockwood has been exposed to electronic music from an early age. With over 10 years experience in the scene from event goer to promoter to now a DJ/Producer playing all across Europe delivering Hypnotic rhythms with core dub influence throughout all of his sets. LKY’s first release in the more hypnotic specification of the genre was in 2020 for Drawner. Since then, LKY has released music on OECUS, SYXT and Secession. In 2020 LKY also saw the formation of his self-release series titled ‘LKY’ which was an opportunity to showcase LKY’s style and direction. LKY has also had great support for his releases from Pioneers of the scene we love and cherish such as; DVS1, Freddy K, Matrixxman, Setaoc Mass, Ben Klock and many more.'
