Coil

Form Grows Rampant is the debut release by Peter Christopherson's solo project The Threshold HouseBoys Choir. The set is a CD + DVD. The album was originally announced in the X-Rated: The Dark Files as Rampant. The set was originally planned to be released in Blu-Ray format.The DVD portion of the set includes documentary footage directed by Peter Christopherson from a vegetarian festival in Krung Thep, Thailand. He has used the video footage during his live performances since the debut concert in Russia.

The first hour of my DJ set at Bleep43 on December 3rd was a tribute to Peter Christopherson, who died on November 25th.
I chose tracks that either featured his voice, or that I especially connected with him.

Many people have asked me about the set and if it was recorded, so I've decided to make it available.

Recorded at Corsica Studios, London, between 11pm and Midnight on December 3rd, 2010.

Whilst recently digitising my tape archive I came across this one from Geff/John Balance of Coil, with whom I frequently exchanged music. It features this one solitary track which I believe he gave me to play out at my Electronic Lounge club that I ran at the Institute of Contemporary Arts London in 1994.

The other side features remixes of the band Stabbing Westward tune 'Lies' but don't believe this has anything to do with Coil. I just think Geff was recycling a tape that was lying around in the studio. This seems to be an alternative mix of ELpH - Static Electrician, longer than the released version.

I share it with you out of respect to the memory of great people no longer with us, and ask that you don't try to profit by making money out of this. Gift culture can make others happy :-)

Coil - For Robin

COIL was formed on May 11th, 1983 by JOHN BALANCE(aka Geff Rushton, Jhon Balance), at the time a member of Psychic TV. Initially, Coil co-existed with another project called Zos Kia, with the core members of both bands being Balance, his fellow PTV member JOHN GOSLING (aka Joan d'Arc) and MIN. This line-up played four live performances as Coil and/or Zos Kia throughout. 1983, often aided by PETER "SLEAZY" CHRISTOPHERSON (ex-Throbbing Gristle, and also a member of PTV). Soon after the appearance of Coil/Zos Kia and Psychic TV at the infamous Berlin Atonal Festival on December 3rd, 1983, Balance and Christopherson left Psychic TV and Zos Kia, becoming the core of Coil. Balance and Christopherson remained the two primary members of the groupuntil Balance's death by accidental fall on November 13th, 2004. Soon after this event, Christopherson announced that Coil would cease to exist, although both he and Jhonn's partner, Ian Johnstone, would be continuing musical and artistic endevours in the same spirit. This discography will include any material that they may release in the future.

We are proud to present two new EPs from De Bons en Pierre, the duo of Beau Wanzer @bwanz & Maoupa Mazzocchetti @maoupa-mazzocchetti . Beau Wanzer spends the majority of his days sifting through paraffin embedded animal tissues and reading old issues of Fangoria, occasionally breaking his monotonous routine to record in various fits and bursts. As well as solo material, he is also in numerous projects including Streetwalker, Mutant Beat Dance, Civil Duty, and Corporate Park. Maoupa Mazzocchetti is the pseudonym of Florent Mazzocchetti, a French producer based in Brussels. His sonic vision is one which constantly straddles the line between wild experimentation and rhythmic compatibility, drawing influence from early concrète, 80's tape scene and Birmingham school techno. 
After working together on the ‘Crepes’ EP that we released in 2017, De Bons en Pierre reunited for a two day recording session in Brussels. The duo recorded 13 tracks that we’ve split across 2 EPs with 6 tracks on ‘EP No. 1’ and 7 tracks on ‘EP No. 2’. Beau says, “We hooked everything up and just pushed play. We didn’t really discuss much about the process….it was very ‘spur of the moment’.” The equipment set up included a Roland TR-808, TR-606, SH-101, CR-78, CR-8000, two Syncussions and effects. Each EP contains 25 minutes of dance floor perversions that tackle an array of rhythmic forms. Sludgy synths, serrated percussion and viscous distortion goops over leviathan rhythms. All songs are mastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. ‘EP No. 1’ is housed in a sewage green jacket featuring a monster mask duo and spiky motifs designed by Florent Mazzocchetti, and ‘EP No. 2’ is radioactive orange with a different pair of monster masks.

‘Kainos’ is the debut album by Index, a new electronic music project by British musician Simon Scott, recorded in 2016 to 2019 in Los Angeles. Scott is a veteran British composer, field recordist, drummer and mastering engineer. 
Taking inspiration from the conflicting opinions of Brexit debates from the Houses Of Parliament, Scott fed these live streams into his modular synthesiser for improvising and composing with. These symbiotic jams formed the foundations for each Index track, with only the sparse nocturnal beats from a Roland 909 and transparent editing of each modular jam to accompany the synthesis. 

Scott’s association with shoegaze, as a member of UK band Slowdive, and ambient influences, present in his solo work on Touch and 12k, is replaced by the early electronics influence of Coil and Throbbing Gristle on Insides, early metal pioneers Black Sabbath rising on tracks such as Blackesh and Exit B. The throbbing 909 pulse on Sprinkles provides a Dubbed out groove that calls to mind Arthur Russell jamming with Basic Channel and the bottom heavy bass lines of dubstep on Countdown has is visceral and contains a brooding sample of Rachel Goswell’s (from Slowdive) voice sucking everything into the mix.
A key conceptual influence to Kainos is Luigi Russolo’s Futurist manifesto for music, The Art Of Noises who glorifies the use of “noise-sounds” and other nonconventional musical sounds. This captures the imagination of a modern culture immersed in ecological disaster (climate catastrophe) and surrounded by the constant noise of capitalism and consumerism. Other inspirations for this album were taken from literary and non-musical ideas such as Donna Haraway’s 2016 book ‘Staying with the trouble; Making kin in the Chthulucene ’ and its central tenet that “our task is to make trouble, to stir up potent response to devastating events on a damaged earth”.
Index is the musical expression of Scott’s profound discontent with the lack of equilibrium we have right now and how disconnected we have all become in relation to nature and each other. Kainos means “now, a time of beginnings, a time for ongoing, for freshness” (Haraway). It is born from ecological grief and political frustration at a time when electronic and ambient music is sitting too comfortably in safe areas of sonic experience with nothing to say and providing aural wallpaper that is safe and sterile.
