EDMID Winter Waveforms 2021 || ixto

Canadian DJ and producer Ryan Shepherd has been gaining popularity over the past few years with his high energy performances and house music beats that make feet move with ease. Gaining early support from the likes of Loud Luxury, he kicked off 2020 in style with tunes that included "Don't Hold Me Down," "What The Hell Am I (Drinking In LA)," and a remix of ALAMPA's "Lush Dance" on Armada Music. But then, the pandemic hit.

Instead of letting the woes of lockdown get him down and out, Ryan Shepherd shifted gears to focus on supporting the local scene in Toronto. He launched a weekly livestream series dubbed Hello Sunday that found a home on Twitch and IG Live in his efforts to raise funds for the city's bar, restaurant, and nightlife scene. While many of the streams featured Ryan Shepherd solely serenading viewers, he has also been joined by other artists in the scene including Zeds Dead, Bobby Love, DLMT, and Famba. Since its launch, these livestreams have raised $20,000 to provide direct support.

As the final days of 2020 approached, Shepherd looked to gift fans with a fresh release to feast on as well with the release of his first single since before the pandemic took hold. Earlier this month he dropped "Hello Sunday," an ode to his fundraiser series that uplifts listeners with its old-school piano house vibes. Featuring vocals from acclaimed UK-based vocalist Caitlyn Scarlett, its lyrics speak directly to those who have been working to better themselves this year and layer in perfectly with the beat.

Now, to help close out the year and carry everyone into 2021, Ryan Shepherd has graced the Winter Waveforms series with a mix that will help you shake off the chilly temperatures. Give it a listen!

EDMID Winter Waveforms 2021 || Baby Weight

Southern California has become a hotbed for the freshest sounds in the underground house and techno scene, and artists from San Diego are helping lead that charge. One of the producers from America's Finest City that continued to impress with each passing performance and release is none other than ElezD.

First catching our ear and wowing us with his music back in 2017, ElezD further proved his abilities in the studio in 2020 with releases that included the likes of "Quatro," "HiCue," and "Remote Disc." He's also flexed his skills as a collaborator by teaming up with another San Diego standout, Memo Rex, on "Capital" that landed on Jannowitz Records, while also remixing 28mm's "ISO" to twist it in a new way as well.

Before the end of the year, ElezD graced his growing fanbase with another stunner dubbed "Uncharted" that features a booming beat and a tempo that urges feet to move. Out now on Playoff Records, it's a surefire jam and a solid addition to any techno lover's playlist so grab your copy on Beatport or listen to the tune on Spotify.

Now, in the first days of 2021, he's looking to leave his mark with a mix that will satiate your cravings for techno tunes and showcases the hard work he's put into making music over the past year. "I made it a goal to create a mix with 100% original music with the exception of one track I included in the mix that isn't mine," ElezD stated when asked about the mix. "I hope you can enjoy it as much as I did when creating this music."

As James Grant and Jody Wisternoff approached the release of Anjunadeep 12, they changed things up by scheduling a disc to drop each week in the lead-up and worked up fans into a frenzy along the way. Now, the complete package has landed in our laps and with it are plenty of new artists to explore, including Oliver Wickham. Gracing the compilation with "Indigo," his debut solo single on Anjunadeep, it feels like the culmination of a long journey for this classically trained Canadian musician who has a long production history.

Oliver Wickham grew up with a knack for music and learned to play the piano at a young age, which set the stage for all that was to come later in his career. He never set out to create any one thing, just the music that fits the mood that he would focus on at that moment. While he scored films and commercials with deep and moody tones that could carry a story, lately he has begun to tap the styles of his electronic influences to dive deeper into a new realm.

"Indigo" is a unique song in the Oliver Wickham discography, but it is also true to his emotional form. Playful synths and a rhythm that's driven mostly without percussion make for both easy listening while doing some work or getting up and moving your body to capture the mood. And with its light, floating melody and his own vocals adding emotion, it's a perfect fit for Anjunadeep.
