A compilation of some of the best examples of Scandinavian folk music.   Outside the Celtic bardic tradition of the Isles, the cultural source of the hot-blooded, hard thumping jigs and reels of Ireland and Scotland are rooted in Scandinavian folk, from the Nordic and later Norman incursions of 800 AD onward.

We spoke to Sámi joik singer <b>Wimme Saari</b> about his upcoming performance as part of The London International Festival of Exploratory Music (LIFEM) which returns to Kings Place with a fascinating line-up of Scandinavian groups.

Also taking part in the Festival are Norway’s Deaf Center, the arctic electronica of Biosphere and Gothenburg-based EF, with their epic, post-rock soundscapes. Plus award-winning Swedish singer
 Frida Hyvönen and RinneRadio from Finland: Equal parts sexy trance jazz and surreal dance music.
