We proudly present our latest release “Anatolian Zurna” contains professionally played and recorded zurna melodies ready to take your musical experience to the next level! 

“Zurna” is a Turkish folk instrument of the wind type. It was the first melody instrument of the Mehter teams in the Ottoman period. It has historically been played outdoors, during festive events such as weddings and public celebrations. It has also been used to gather crowds in order to make official announcements. It is a double-reed woodwind instrument which has a very bright, high frequency sound; it is almost inseparable with davul (Turkish bass drum) and it is thought that they constitute a good ensemble for traditional weddings. Zurna is constructed from one piece of wood, had one thumb-hole and up to eight finger-holes. Seven holes on the front, and one thumb hole, provide a range of over one octave including some transposition. The most common zurna playing technique is the continuous playing technique where while the air collected in the cave of the mouth is blown out from the reed, inhaling through nostrils occurs simultaneously.

In detail expect to find 505MB of raw content featuring 90 beautifully played “Zurna” loops at 100/120/130bpm and includes a dry version (w/o any additional e.q, compressor or reverb effects) and wet version of each, giving a total of 180 files. All loops are Key and tempo labeled for ease of use. All sounds are ready to fit straight in your tracks. 

This instrument can be used accompanying other instruments and perfectly usable in variety of musical genres whether you’re producing world music, ethnic & organic folk music, experimental, cinematic, ambient, meditation, live lounge, electronica or even hip hop also suitable for film score, documentaries and media compositions as well - the only limit is your imagination!

'Brightly shines the sun now'  or 'Spring Song', is an action song about birds for young children.
It is composed by Paul Schaub, lyrics by Phila Schaub and sung and played by Marianne Lihannah.
The song is pentatonic and apart from singing, a triangle is being played to mark the quick rests. This is written into the composition, and it creates a beautiful atmosphere. The song has also got improvisation written into it. An improvised bird song can be either sung or played on instruments. The improvised sequence is sung in this video, improvised after listening to a thrush's bird song melody. The bells are used as a metaphor for sunshine. In this video a mini gold ball is used, which has bells hidden within. Any instrument with a 'sunny' sound could be used.
The song has been translated from German, it's original title is Frühlingslied (Springsong). Also all the bird sounds in the song have been translated into recognizable English bird sounds.

I think I like the night time the best. Everything is quiet and soft and the weight of the day melts away, leaving room for my thoughts and my creativity. Something tender unfurls from within me and spills into my room and I can finally breathe. At least I can always end my day in peace. The stillness of the night makes me want to sing small melodies to the moon and sway with the stars. Instead, I listen to the distant echo of the day and let the sounds of the crickets lull me to sleep. My breathing slows as something resonates deep within me.

'The Darkest Midnight in December' is an Irish traditional folk carol for Christmas night, after Fr William Devereux, 1728. It is from Fr Devereux's collection of Kilmore Christmas carols, called 'A New Garland'. These Christmas Carols are much more like folk songs.
I used to consider this beautiful Carol, as MY Christmas Carol. I have sung it as a solo during several Christmas concerts when I sang with the choir, 'Tonalis Company of Singers' and the choir 'Choros'. I have also sung it in folk clubs etc.
There are actually quite a few verses, but I only sing verse 1, first solo acapella and then as a duet with myself and nyckelharpa drones.
This Christmas carol can be found in many Carol books with all the many ornaments actually written into the sheet music, true to the sean noes style from the West of Ireland.

The Kilmore Carols are found only in Wexford, and date back more than 300 years. In 1684 Luke Waddinge, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Ferns, published A Smale Garland of Pious and Godly Songs. The cover inscription continues: "Composed by a devout Man/ For the Solace of his Friends and/ neighbours in their afflictions." The book contained 11 Christmas songs, two of which are still sung in Kilmore today. The texts were new, while the melodies were drawn from various traditional sources.
Waddinge died shortly after his book appeared, but interest in the subject was revived by a Father William Devereux, parish priest of Drinagh, Wexford from 1730-1771 (the current Devereuxes in Kilmore are almost certainly related to this priest). Devereux published A New Garland Containing Songs for Christmas. This included some of his own carols along with a few from Waddinge's collection.

Father R. Ranson, who published an edition of the Devereux book in 1949, claims that "the carols were first sung in a little chapel at Killiane, and tradition seems to indicate that the choir consisted of six men." The chapel in question was "no more than a mud hut".

The carols proved very popular, and manuscript copies quickly spread to neighbouring parishes, including Kilmore. Diarmaid O Muirithe, who has assembled and edited a collection of all the Wexford Carols (The Wexford Carols, Dolmen Press, 1982) observes: "They were sung in most of the churches of south Wexford in the 18th century, and even well into the 19th century. I think it's a great pity that they're now no longer sung outside Kilmore." O Muirithe considers that the church hierarchy in Wexford is to some extent responsible for the carols' decline. "For centuries they had been regarded by the church with a kind of benign tolerance, no more than that."

One priest in Kilmore Quay in the 19th century decided to get rid of the carols altogether and replace them with Victorian hymnody. "But the people in Kilmore decided they wouldn't be banished. The priest was banished instead, because nobody came into the church the next year. The bishop had to transfer him."
