In March of this year we saw Jimpster’s Porchlight And Rocking Chairs LP fall on expectant and eager ears, winning praise from the likes of RA, DJ Mag and Groove as well as plays and support from a host of the worlds best radio and club DJ’s. With the majority of the LP being more home listening than club-focused we decided to call in some of our favorite producers to rework a track of their choice for the dance-floors and here we present you the first part of the amazing results.

KiNK needs little introduction of course, except to say that his live set as well as his hands on hardware approach in the studio has seen him become established as one of the most exciting producers of the last couple of years. When he agreed to remix Porchlight And Rocking Chairs (a track he incidentally referred to as his favorite of the year!) we couldn’t have been happier and knew that something very special would come from it. When he got in touch to say he’d done a version but explained it was done live in one take with all the parts being tweaked in real time making it very hard to change anything we were even more intrigued and excited. As expected, what he delivered is an intense, high energy reworking full of piercing high’s and rattling lows, keeping the original chords and many of the keyboard lines in place but injecting a raw drive and improvised feel which has already seen it become a highlight of Jimpster sets this summer.

Andre Lodemann provides the perfect antidote to KiNK’s frenetic version in the form of his Towards The Seer Remix, going for a tight, emotive, late night groove which develops slowly, teasing out the arrangement and keeping things sublime and understated. Subtle bass twists and dubbed out FX build to the extended break where we’re introduced to the original’s acoustic bass riff in all it’s glory. Another brilliant Andre Lodemann production.

(en)Following stunning solo releases from Julienne Dessagne aka The Twins and Sascha Funke, revered techno balladeers SASCHIENNE reunite for a stunning offering called GOLDEN PRINTS, a gorgeous set of synth-driven, beat-bound soundscapes rich in atmosphere and suspense. 

It's a kind of unruly romanticism that perfuses the budding techno scenarios from SASCHIENNE, often starting with a deceptively simple hook - which slowly evolves into a tense drama as abrasive as it is therapeutic. GOLDEN PRINTS is no different, smudging the volatile faultlines between anthemic electronics, cyber folk and industrial drones from the get-go. 

The A-side's double bill kicks off with the crawling synths from CHAMBRE BLEUE, a dusty, introspective vignette whose increasingly queasy mood is balanced by Julienne's self-assured narration and an unswerving bass line. THE ERA OF THE LEOPARD continues the trek through barren lands with a strong instinct for survival, embodied by its sunburnt guitar licks, throbbing bass and resonant leads. 

The flipside belongs to the somewhat ominously titled DON'T PUT YOUR FINGERS IN THE SOCKET, an exquisite arrangement of contorted feedback loops, foreboding synth sequences and a relentlessly mechanical beat. Short vocal interjections seem to only further the mystique, merely containing the seemingly erratic outbursts of a cut deliberately spiralling out of control. This is music for adventures and other transgressions, undiluted and unfaltering - an exciting new release from two people who know which way to twist the knife.

Die Doppelvorstellung der A-Seite beginnt mit den krabbelnden Synthies von CHAMBRE BLEUE, einer grobkörnigen, introspektiven Vignette, deren zunehmend mulmige Stimmung durch Juliennes selbstgewisse Erzählweise und eine unerschütterliche Bassline in Schach gehalten wird. THE ERA OF THE LEOPARD setzt den Marsch durch karges Terrain fort, dank eines starken Überlebensinstinkts der sich hier in sonnengegerbten Gitarren-Licks, pochendem Bass und resonierenden Lead-Sounds äussert. 

Die Rückseite gehört dem einigermassen ominös benannten DON'T PUT YOUR FINGERS IN THE SOCKET, einem exquisiten Arrangement von verzogenen Feedback-Schleifen, unheilsschwangeren Synth-Sequenzen und einem unermüdlich mechanischen Beat. Kurze Vocal-Einwürfe scheinen den geheimnisvollen Nimbus nur zu verstärken, kaum daß sie die vordergründig erratisch anmutenden Ausbrüche eindämmen könnten, welche den bewusst aus der Spur gelenkten Track heimsuchen. Dies ist Musik für Abenteuer und andere Grenzverletzungen, unverschnitten und unbeugsam - ein neues aufregendes Release von zweien, die ganz genau wissen in welchem Einfallswinkel das Salz in die Wunde gestreut wird.

2015 will see German techno mainstay Stephan Bodzin ready to unleash his next full-length musical vision on the world. Entitled “Powers of Ten”, the 10-track album will land in June 2015 on his own Herzblut Recordings and provides another great insight into the melodically rich muscle mind of this modern great.
Says Stephan Bodzin of the LP: “Powers of Ten has been with me all my life and is named after a book that has been my background hiss, its confusing truth is my only real faith and its infinity shows me its finiteness. The album is about harmonies, melodies, rhythms. It is an homage to Bob Moog, full of techno beats and sounds and space and party and ecstasy and dancing and listening, and crying and feeling. It is a journey, a philosophy of life, a view of the world, a vague perception. It is my wife, my children, my family, my friends, my passion, my enemy, my greatest fulfillment, my fear, my deepest peace, my power, all my love.”
As such, this album is hugely personal and is filled with cerebral messages and well thought out concepts. All this shines through and makes it an all the more engaging listen from start to finish. Kicking off with the spine tingling chords and louche beats of ‘Singularity’ cuts like ‘Lila’ then continue to confirm that Stephan Bodzin has a classical understanding of melody that is way beyond your average.
‘Blue Giant’, ‘Wir’ and ‘Ix’ all manage to be uplifting and thoughtful at the same time as driven and groovy, whilst ‘Birth’ comes on with a hymnal high note, long tailed pads and subtly shifting beats. The ghostly grooves of ‘Zulu’ mark a majestic mid point to the album, which then continues to seduce with spiritual synths and more beautiful melodies on cuts like ‘Odyssee’ as well as the album’s standout title track.
Unfolding coherently and in soothing fashion, this album once again proves that few producers in the modern world have a knack for melody and an ear for sonic ingenuity quite like Stephan Bodzin.

'We Stay Together' is a brand new doublepack from Andy Stott, a companion piece of sorts to the radical inversions of the 'Passed Me By' EP released earlier this year. Its predecessor left many heads dazed upon impact - in the best possible sense - and these six tracks, produced in its wake, amp the pressure to throttling degrees. Entering the digital compression chamber of 'Submission' you become a willing participant, before the lights are cut and you're forced to adjust to the humid atmosphere and bruising, muscle-contracting darkroom throb of 'Posers'. Suitably initiated, the EP's fearless centrepiece 'Bad Wires' plunges into full on mud-party mode, dropping the tempo while intensifying the kinaesthetic funk with slow, clusterf*cked syncopation until you're drowning in synthesized oil and crushed-glass textures. Fully submerged by 'We Stay Together (Part One)' time becomes elasticated like worn VHS tape, calling to mind Jamal Moss and James Ferraro soundtracking a rave in a sodden, flooded sauna, before inescapably tumbling into the sheer black hole of 'Cherry Eye' and left to the slompy jack of 'Cracked'. Blatantly, we rate this record massively, and although it's not for everyone, those looking for a more visceral, intense form of dancefloor pressure would do very well to check in

Ännu mer av den gotiska, mörka och spröda balladkänslan som präglade hennes debutalbum Singing from the Grave? En serie lättnynnade melodier anpassade till samtidens radioformat? Eller något äventyrligare, farligare, mer oberäkneligt?

Det sistnämnda har funnits där hela tiden, ända sedan Anna von Hausswolff började göra sina soloframträdanden runtom i Göteborg kring 2007-08: det kraftfulla, motsägelsefulla, dubbelbottnade som fick sångerna att om och om igen ta oväntade vägar.

Men på Ceremony har själva friheten hamnat i förgrunden, i musikens absoluta centrum. Det är verkligen en radikal förändring som gör både sångerna och ljudbilderna större, vidare, djupare, flyktigare, skarpare. Musiken stiger liksom till väders, som i det makalösa slutet av ”Goodbye”, där klangerna vandrar stegvis uppåt, allt högre, i sångens egen himmelsfärd.

Konstigt att ingen kommit på tanken förut: att använda kyrkorgel som huvudinstrument i popmusik. För omedelbart när man hör det, exempelvis i de betvingande Beach Boysharmonierna som bildar grunden i sången ”Mountains Crave”, framstår orgeltonerna som lyckobringande klangrum. Ja, det är en fantastisk frihetskänsla som etableras och erövras, som om kyrkorgeln vore den perfekta synten, en fantasimaskin med obegränsade uttrycksmöjligheter.

Att genrekategorisera den här musiken känns bara dumt. Poängen är ju att sångerna tillåter sig att vara allt på en gång, och att kyrkorgeln blir själva bekräftelsen av denna komplexa och samtidigt omedelbara närvarokänsla. ”It’s all there, it’s all there”, sjunger Anna von Hausswolff, och så är det: alla tider är närvarande, den barockvärld som födde Bachs koraler och det dova mörker där de utdragna, råa droneklangerna hittar sin kraft, och här möts världarna på de mest förbluffande vis.

Musiken säger att vi är mångtydiga varelser, och det är precis så det har känts när jag gått omkring i flera månader med de här sångerna i lurarna. Sångerna förflyttar sig obehindrat från det ena till det andra, och har en märklig förmåga att glida ihop med landskapet eller rummet. Det finns en förtröstan och ett lyssnande till ljusets och tidens skiftningar, och det är detta som gör musiken så stor och stark. Den ändrar sig oupphörligt, den är helt fri.

Really touched by all the support we've been receiving from everyone and so, so appreciative of it all. It's only been a short time we've been writing this story together but just the fact that doing the music we feel in our hearts manages to connect with so many other people is gratifying beyond words.
While this is certainly only the end of a chapter and the beginning of a much longer story, it's important for us to take a moment and take note of the things that matter. Beyond polls and numbers (which are transitory as all in life is) it's the downright love we've felt from so many that has truly left a lasting mark on us both.
So as a little token of thanks we're offering a free download of our unreleased Straight To Your Head remix which many people have been asking us about this past year.
It feels like a nice way to close this chapter as we begin to start the next.
