Rachel Sumner is an award-winning songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose music bridges the worlds of folk, bluegrass, and chamber Americana. A Kerrville New Folk winner and recipient of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest’s Lennon Award in the folk category, Sumner’s lyric-driven songs blend intricate melodies with evocative storytelling. Before launching her solo career, she co-founded and toured extensively with the genre-bending roots group Twisted Pine. Her music has been performed at the Library of Congress, archived for preservation, and recognized for its compelling narratives and innovative approach to tradition. Whether performing solo or with her band, Traveling Light, Sumner’s spellbinding performances continue to captivate audiences across the country.

I am a singer/songwriter from Westchester, NY. I studied songwriting at Berklee College of Music and earned my Bachelors Degree in Songwriting. I use the piano to write my songs and express myself through my art of storytelling. Performing live is my passion. I love to connect with the audience and share my music.
