The hot air balloon drifted up into the sky, it could be seen overlooking the city, those perched in the tiny wicker basket below watched down upon a busy world of hustle and bustle.

The sky was clear but in the distance there was the odd cloud splattered against a deep radiant blue backdrop. The sun beamed down upon them as they continued to rise in the glow of the morning.

Perhaps this is what it felt like, flying that is. He’d always imagined it might be weightless and freeing, yet as he sat perched in the small booth he realised it was far more than that. It was a sense of being, a state of forever in which you might never land and touch back down to earth. That would be dreamy he thought..

Yuu Udagawa is set to release a new EP, a fruity assortment of fun electronic mischief which is reminiscent of early DJ Koze and old downtempo beat tapes. This one gets a big green tick and a thumbs up from us.

Eduardo's "Forest" EP, releasing on the 24th of January 2025 via Apparel Music, is a meticulously crafted journey into the dense and fertile soundscape of House music. With its quicker tempo and electric energy, this track is a burst of dynamism in the EP. Sharp, syncopated beats are layered with shimmering synths that crackle and pulse, mirroring the erratic yet beautiful nature of lightning itself. "Llaqta", named after the Quechua word for "village" or "community" brings a sense of groundedness and connection to the EP. It's a nod to Eduardo's roots, blending tribal rhythms and deep house grooves with a strong sense of place. There's a warmth and humanity in this track, with its layered percussion and subtle melodies that ebb and flow like life in a vibrant community. Each of these tracks represents a different facet of Eduardo's artistry, but together, they create a richly textured EP that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant. Italian producer Enrico Mantini has been doin' his thing for longer than most, with releases reaching back to the early 90s when deep house was first surging in popularity in Italy. This new label Purism opens up with Mantini showing off his years of experience via some warm, undulating tracks that should sit comfortably with any lover of true deep house. "Inner Heights" is as laid back as they come, harmonious and buttery synths oozing over gentle machine beats. "4 Strings Love" is a peppier affair with a bumping rhythm and dubby melodic touches, and then "Unparalleled Consistency" strips everything back to a minimal core, showcasing the range within Mantini's learned palette.

Talented Swedish duo NEAT return to Exploited following their "Street Violence" release. Comprised of three sleek dancefloor weapons, "Tall As The Trees" shows once again that they’re a force to be reckoned with.

NEAT began life as an underground techno and electro party in the duo’s native Stockholm. Residing in a succession of the city’s most interesting venues, they booked the likes of 808 State, Ellen Allien, Modeselektor, Nina Kraviz, DMX Krew and I-F across the years. In 2016, the NEAT project was reborn as a live act, featuring analog synths, drum machines and effects units. You can really hear their dynamic live approach in these freewheeling, slow-burning tracks.

"Tall As The Trees" opens the proceedings with a subtle groove bordering techno and house, incessant muted chord stabs drive the track along as analog bass and bleeps pulse and bleep away. Subtle automation keeps things evolving as indecipherable vocal snippets delay across the stereo field.

Things get spacey on "You Go Boss", as sustained FM synths play a dreamy, jazzy chord progression beneath urgent techno rides and atmospheric layers. The monotone bass pushes everything along in a deep, tribal way while the percussion continually morphs and tripped out FX touches flit around the soundscape.

"Carraldo" goes for a more melodic, progressive approach but is equally as subtle, with simple melodies keeping things dreamy but understated. Warm bass combines beautifully with the main synth hook, with heavenly shimmers and pads sounds creating a stunning, hazy sound that lifts your mind into a deeper state.
