Powerful words of Armenian poet from the 18th century Harutjana Sajatjana (at that time known as Sajat Nova - King songs) are caught in the visual pastiche that is a stylized biography as well as a hommage to his work. It is divided into eight parts each corresponding to a phase of his life. His poetry remains immortal. Here we witness the revolutionary explosion of colors and shapes, braided in poetry, as you can only create in film.
New to the big screen will be the new 35mm film copies in its broadcast of all (and only) five hours of raw, silent film material (which can not be repeated even one scene), out of which Paradjanov carved his masterpiece and is presented as a wonderful, single gem of a mighty poetry, perhaps even without rhythm and rhyme, for which it will be accompanied with live music. The continuous marathon live musical accompaniment will be performed by our house cinematheque harpist Eduardo Raon.
