3rd single from upcoming 12-part concept album, "Insights", being released September 29th, 2023.

"Takk" means "Thanks" in Icelandic (and several other languages). It is also the name of an album by Sigur Rós, the most influential group on my own musical life.

This is probably the most pop-inspired track I've ever recorded, and is an ode of thanks not just to Sigur Rós directly, but to all of the musical influences I've taken in over my lifetime.

I describe this as "structured improvisation" - the only notes I wrote down for this piece are 4 chords, which repeat throughout. The rest of the variation and changes in dynamics and note orders are all what I was feeling the moment we captured this.

That's really in the spirit of connecting personally with the music as a performer, and to play an idea which can change on any given day. Remaining the same, yet different.

This music is what goes through me at the piano when I'm sad, when I'm tired, when I'm delighted, when I'm struggling, ecstatic, energized, overwhelmed, confused, content. It's my core, and if you were to capture my music in a bottle, this is what might shine out.

“'Life in the Time of Warming' is a poem that derives its inspiration from the book The Uninhabitable Earth by David Wallace-Wells. Quite simply, you will not be the same after you read this book about the consequences of global warming. We are just starting to see these consequences; we are living in the time of warming. The names of the three parts share the same names of the first three parts of Wells’s book.

'Cascades' brings up the idea of feedback loops. If x happens, then y happens. If y happens, then z happens. If z happens, that makes x worse, which in turn makes y worse, which in turn makes z worse. Etc., etc.

'Elements' focuses on the effects of climate change across different environments.

'Kaleidoscope' is the way we view global warming, watching the changing patterns of rotating colors without fully understanding their significance.

(Just) Play - Edward Enman

Edward Enman is a classical pianist and composer whose original musical style has been shaped by the lush lyricism of Sigur Rós and the rhythmic drive of John Adams, while taking on a powerful warmth all its own. His inventive voice draws from storytelling, cinema, and visual art, while incorporating electronic elements and style-blurring writing.

As a recording artist, performer, and creator, Edward strives to create meaningful connections with listeners while breaking down stylistic barriers in the classical music world. He holds an enthusiasm for compelling programming and enjoys combining the old with the new.

Edward’s first full-length albums of original music Breathe In, Breathe Out (2022), and Insights (2023) have each been nominated for Classical Album/Composer of the Year from the East Coast Music Awards and the Nova Scotia Music Awards. His newest 2023 release Insights features Edward as pianist and composer in a 12-part work for solo piano.

As a soloist and collaborative performer, he performs regularly across Canada, and his compositions have been premiered and performed around the world. Edward was pianist and arranger on the 2023 album Je me souviens à toi with singer Rose Naggar-Tremblay and bassist Gabriel Lapointe. In 2024-2025, he will be releasing two solo albums: WE ARE HERE, and Silver Light: Fantasies on Poems by Sara Teasdale while also being featured as a contributing composer on rap artist Quinton Barnes’ new recording project.

Dr. Enman holds degrees in solo piano performance from the University of Montréal (DMus), University of Ottawa (MMus), and Acadia University (BM). He is a part-time instructor at Acadia University, a vocal coach at the Fountain School of Performing Arts, and a teacher on faculty at the Scotia Suzuki School of Music in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he lives with his family.
