Dr. Edward Enman is a musician who thrives off of the vitality of live performance, new music creations, and the continued re-interpretation of the extensive breadth of music for the piano. His sensitive and intelligent musical approach is as equally well-suited to the works of Brahms and Beethoven as it is to the music of John Adams and Nico Muhly. Edward’s versatility as a high-caliber performer, inventive composer, and enthusiastic director has him standing out as a leader in the current music landscape.

His original compositions are engaging, accessible, and vulnerable while providing an emotional edginess through lushly dissonant harmonies and extended resolutions. His award-winning choral compositions have been widely received and performed. At the age of 17 he won the Vancouver Chamber Choir’s Young Composers’ Competition and has since had his works performed by, among others, the Canadian Chamber Choir, V.C.C, Capital Chamber Choir, Calixa Lavallée Ensemble, Ewashko Singers, Adleisia Chamber Choir, Xara Choral Theatre Ensemble, and the Halifax Camerata Singers as the winner of the ensemble’s 2011 composition competition. In 2015, Edward was commissioned by Xara Choral Theatre Ensemble to contribute to the critically acclaimed show “Fatty Legs”. That same year Edward was named the winner of the Nova Scotia Choral Federation’s National Composition Competition with his piece “Time’s Small Space”. His first work for solo piano “The Arrow of Time” was premiered on a tour of southern Ontario in January 2016 and was subsequently performed by Edward across the country. His new 60-minute endeavour for solo piano draws from poetic texts by Canadian authors and will be premiered on a cross-Canada tour in 2020. His music is published by Lighthouse Music Publications and Renforth Music.

Based in Montréal, Edward is a touring performer, composer, director, collaborator, and teacher.
