Prophet of a boundary-pushing, borderline-abstract strain of techno, Stanislav Tolkachev has laid the foundation to a truly unique body of work. Bending the curve of linear techno’s musty grammar and its underexploited power of artistic transgression, the Ukrainian producer graced the grooves of the most high-end record labels out there, including Token Records, Modularz, Semantica, Mord and yours truly. Threading his way into our mix series with two hours of mind-expanding hardware magic involving 3 CDJs, an analogue drum machine, FX plus some analogue random modular sequencers, Tolkachev hits hard and sure, sending us in orbit up a galaxy far, far away, only he can shepherd his enlightened flock to. Flush with trippy flights out techno’s outer space and proper floor-destroying plot twists, this one promises to have you zoning out of this world entirely. Enjoy the journey.

I put a massive effort into that night, thinking about the past and future of my DJ career. I communicated best with the dancers and could express myself in a way that only I could. Sometimes I feel insecure about my life as a DJ. CODA gave me all the answers.

Donato Dozzy has long been a revered figure in the global electronic music scene, known for his rare ability to craft hypnotic soundscapes that linger in the mind. Whether in contemporary clubs or classical settings, his sets consistently conjure deep moods and immersive atmospheres.

With this being his first mix release in over 5 years, we’re treated to an early insight into what he’ll bring to Continuum on February 1st.

Kaleidoscopic psychedelia from one of Australia's finest.

While it might feel early to call bets on DJs of the decade, Kia Sydney, best known as Kia, is undoubtedly one of them. The Animalia founder began in Naarm's (Melbourne) underground scene in the mid-2010s, crediting a trip to the influential deep techno Japanese festival, Labyrinth, as the inspiration behind her sound.

Deep techno might not cut it as a descriptor for Sydney's sound, though. Hypnotic ribbons of steely techno mix with atmospherics and nimble grooves, drawing from IDM, dub and tech house, sharing as much with DJ Nobu and Donato Dozzy (try to find the track that overlaps with Dozzy's own RA Podcast) as well as modern practitioners like Priori and Beatrice M.

This distinctly Australian scuttling psychedelia has made Kia one of the most sought-after underground DJs globally. Her brainchild, Animalia, showcases a plurality of sounds and scenes, serving as living proof of the fruitful shift of the 2020s: less serious, perhaps, but with a sense of open-minded worldliness that offers a far more promising vision of what dance music can be and achieve.

Sydney's rare talent lies in forging connections, bringing people, sounds and ideas together with a distinct playfulness. Her RA Podcast showcases this alchemy in abundance, weaving classics like Monolake and Enya with peers such as OK EG, Cousin and Command D.

As she told us in her 2023 Breaking Through profile, "people tell me I have quite a distinctive sound but I can't tell so much because I hear so many different versions of it." RA.973 serves as confirmation that Kia's style is, to say the least, the mark of a generational talent.

Blasting his way into our series this week, Dutch producer Robin Kampschoer revs up the engines and lifts us off to higher spheres of consciousness through two hours of chiselled post-industrial sound engineering. Exploring the confines of techno, somewhere at the junction of proper raw, steely rhythms and further elevated ambience-scaping, the RKM boss and STOOR alum swings the pendulum betwixt full-blown warehouse-ready assault and inward-gazing escapism effortlessly. Elegantly brutalist, his approach is both one of nuance and impact, exalting and pensive in equal measure, never flinching in its quest for the sweet spot between raging horsepower and nostalgia-soaked harmonics.

This year, the spanish techno legend Oscar Mulero will return to the stage at rural, and we are happy to share the recording of his closing set at “rural at New Acao” in 2022.

This three-hour raging techno set guided the audience to the most intense and deeper world in the otherworldly main floor of “New Acao”, a gorgeous Showa-era building overlooking the sea.
