Whoever is capable of providing in oneself a place not only for the other but for the relation with the other is human. This cannot happen in a pure instantaneousness. An interior reserve is indispensable, an availability to thinking which permits listening, welcoming and a response respecting the two subjects and their relation. Another relation to space and to time becomes necessary, elaborated so that the human will become from then on sheltered in the work of a becoming human. This shelter is built by the two in respect for mutual differences, nature being transmuted into a spiritual matter, which little by little envelops and protects the subjects on their path while constraining them to pursue it. Human being exists thanks to a relational becoming in which it transforms natural properties into spiritual aptitudes.
