It was one of the earliest BBC traditions; each year in May the corporation broadcast the birdsong from the back garden, in Surrey, of English cellist Beatrice Harrison, live on the radio.

But on May 19, 1942, as BBC staff prepared to transmit the chirruping of nightingales, 197 Wellington and Lancaster bombers appeared overhead.

A quick-thinking engineer, realising a live broadcast of the bombers could warn Nazi spies of the impending attack, pulled the plug.

But a poignant double-sided recording of the moment survived. The first side records the departing planes, the second captures their return - 11 fewer.

Yes, it was cold. 
Only -5 celcius but after two hours it feels alot more.

There is a distant traffic. The road is about 2,5 - 2,8 kilometers away.
I had to remove a noise slightly because the recording is quiet and its always difficult to record ice sounds. I have to develop a better technique.
Otherwise this is actual recording. The ice was really active.

Une balade sonore au ras du sol, enregistrée en binaural par des chiens d’un quartier récemment urbanisé en bordure de Belo Horizonte, au sud-est du Brésil. Les preneurs de son Marmita, Pretinha, Nina, Bob, Frida et Una ont été équipés d'un micro binaural placé au niveau des oreilles. 
Connus sous le noms de “vira-latas” (retourneurs de poubelle), les chiens des rues du Brésil proposent une écoute de leur monde et de leur cohabitation avec les humains. Quand on est chien, on aime fouiller dans les déchets pour dénicher quelque chose à manger, on aboie quand une moto passe, on court après les voitures qui envahissent notre territoire, on se faufile à l'intérieur des maisons et on explore les terrains abandonnés...

Known as “vira-latas” (dump tippers), stray dogs offer their canine listening abilities in conjunction with human cohabitation. As a dog, you love rummaging through dumpsters, looking for something to eat; you bark when a motorcycle passes by; you run after cars invading your territory; you dash in and out of houses; and you explore abandoned fields. This piece offers a ground level sonic walk, binaurally recorded by dogs in a recent urbanized neighborhood close to Belo Horizonte in Southeast Brazil.
