After a year-long hiatus from the label, Anjunabeats luminary Grum returns with the ‘Isolation EP’. 

Graeme Shepherd, better known as Grum, hails from Glasgow. His relationship with Anjunabeats stretches back to 2015, when Above & Beyond signed him to the label over a glass of whisky one night after a gig. A string of brilliant singles followed: ‘U’, ‘Shout’, ‘Shining’ and ‘Price Of Love’ to name a few, plus his Anjunabeats Worldwide 07 compilation, which charted on Billboard’s Dance / Electronic Album chart. 

His long-awaited artist album ‘Deep State’ - released in November 2019 - was a triumph, cementing his place at the forefront of progressive trance. 

Featuring four new cinematic, beatless compositions, the ‘Isolation EP’ sees Grum journey into new territory.

“Over the past year I've spent an awful lot of time by myself. Once I'd fully understood what was happening, I realised I would now have a lot of time on my hands. On recommendation from Jordi van Achthoven (one half of Tinlicker), I turned to music as a form of therapy and escapism. With no clubs open for the foreseeable future, I started discovering and rediscovering music and genres that I hadn't listened to before, or hadn't listened to in years. I ended up really enjoying ambient, classical and film soundtrack music from the likes of Max Richter, Trent Reznor, Japan and M83. The result is the ‘Isolation EP’. As well as providing a bit of escapism for myself, I hope it will help transport you somewhere else for a small part of your day.” - Grum

This wasn't the start to 2022 that anyone wanted.  For ten (10+) years I have been fortunate enough to fine respite in DJ'ing and through that time I am not sure I have every developed a more emotional DJ Set.  Although Spring officially doesn't start for a couple more weeks this one needed to arrive early.  

While the 2022 Spring DJ Set may open melodically it quickly is replaced with spite, anger and defiance yet somehow it manages to finish with hope.  Track names include One Day at a Time, Healing Forest, Flame, Hope in Balance and Zero.  I hope you appreciate the heavy European influence in this one.

Colorado 2022 (Mix #2)

On Saturday, April 30th, 2022, I was honored to be on the opening roster to perform a B2B (back-to-back) set, paired up with my long-time Seattle DJ friend, the lovely Janice Chae, a.k.a. J-NOTE, for none other than one of the true Godfathers of the Trance scene, legendary UK Trance artist and record producer, PAUL OAKENFOLD. Truth be known, it was Paul Oakenfold that originally sent me spiraling into the world of Trance, from which I never have emerged again, in 1998 when I first heard his album “Tranceport” at Disney World in Orlando, FL. That album blew my mind and it sent me into this mad frenzy to find more and more of this music called Trance, which led me down the rabbit hole to other artists over the next few years like Tiesto, Mirco de Govia, Ronski Speed, Kyau & Albert, NuNRG, Andy Moor, Mike Shiver, Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Cosmic Gate, and eventually Above & Beyond, ANJUNA, etc, but that whole journey for me had a definitive starting point, “the Big Bang” as it were, and for me that was Paul Oakenfold… So, this show really felt like a going the full circle for me, and was just a really amazing night. It was also my good friend Eric Weber’s birthday, and he DJ’d an amazing all-classics Birthday set right after us, so it was truly a night to remember, and the club was totally packed with Trance fans and had an incredible energy to play to. Janice and I didn’t rehearse this set, we just set rough guidelines for general BPM and feel, and to try to have tracks that were easier to mix into, but what you hear on this set is what we figured out organically as we played through our 70-minute time slot. It was a total blast, and getting to “open for” and actually meet Paul Oakenfold was a definite bucket list item checked off for me. What a night!!
