In 1987, Filippo Povelato was just 13 years old when his life changed forever. Born in the magical city of Venice, Italy, he grew up surrounded by canals, art, and tradition. But one evening, while tuning an old radio, Filippo stumbled upon something that sounded like it came from the future: pulsating beats, hypnotic melodies, and rhythms that seemed alive. It was electronic music, and from that moment, he was hooked.

As Filippo dove deeper into this new world, his room became filled with tapes of artists like Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, Jean-Michel Jarre, and the mesmerizing sounds of Ryuichi Sakamoto. But what truly captured his imagination was the music coming out of the underground scene, with names like Leo Mas, Fabrice, and Jemolotto leading the way. These pioneers gave him a glimpse of a new world where music could break boundaries and create freedom.

By 1991, at the age of 17, Filippo was ready to leave Venice behind. His first destination? Ibiza. The Balearic island was a paradise where the Mediterranean sun met endless nights of music. There, he experienced firsthand the magic of Leo Mas and Fabrice, who were reshaping the sound of the island with eclectic, genre-blending sets. Filippo spent every night dancing under the stars, soaking in the energy of the island’s legendary clubs like Amnesia and Ku. Those long, euphoric nights cemented his dream of dedicating his life to electronic music.

From Ibiza, Filippo’s journey took flight. He traveled to London, where the rave scene was at its peak, and discovered the raw power of acid house. In Detroit, he explored the origins of techno, where machines and soul collided to create a futuristic sound. Miami introduced him to the vibrant fusion of house and Latin rhythms, while Barcelona and Valencia offered him a mix of coastal charm and cutting-edge beats.

By the late 1990s, Filippo ventured to Bali, where music met nature in harmony. He played at secluded beach gatherings as the sun dipped below the horizon, blending ambient sounds with deep grooves. Southeast Asia became a second home. From Saigon to Shanghai, he absorbed the energy of bustling metropolises, while Thailand’s islands—Koh Samui, Bangkok, and Phuket—gave him a taste of hedonistic paradise.

Through all his travels, Filippo’s record collection grew, becoming a living archive of his journey. By the time he hit his thirties, he wasn’t just collecting music—he was creating experiences. His DJ sets became known for their storytelling, weaving together the sounds of Ibiza, Detroit, and Bali into something timeless.

Now in his fifties, Filippo Povelato still follows the rhythm of life. His base is once again Bali, where he balances a tranquil lifestyle with his enduring passion for music. His hair may be silver, but his spirit remains youthful. Whether spinning tracks at an intimate beachside gathering or dancing barefoot under the stars, Filippo continues to celebrate the music that shaped him.

For Filippo, electronic music isn’t just a sound—it’s a journey, a story, and a way of life. Decades after that fateful night in Venice, he’s still moving to the beat, proving that as long as the music plays, the journey never ends.
