The two brothers from the Okvsho Duo grew up in the city of Zurich with influences from oldschool classical beatmaking to the Modern Jazz Scene, Funk and Neosoul. Their Balkan origins and their Brazilian percussion experiences truly inspired their music. The Orange Wine EP, their first release on the label record Hip Dozer, seems like a logical new step for the duo. Jusqu'ici Tout Va Bien' is a smooth and groovy jazz beat adorned with live saxophone recordings, tropical drums and a beautiful round bass giving the song an undeniable groove.

'Dilla Impresses Me’ encapsulates Matt’s distinct approach to jazz and hip hop fusion. The track pays homage to Dilla’s unique off the grid groove which he discovered as a teenager after listening to Dilla on repeat. This was a catalyst for Matt’s obsession with jazz as he heard new perspectives, layers and textures in Dilla’s music which developed like characters in a story. This cyclical effect is revealed in Matt’s new track through the straightforward piano, hazy trombone, grounded bass and pocketed drums.

Ilmiliekki Quartet from Helsinki return with their new self-titled album on We Jazz Records on 11 February 2022. The group, including Verneri Pohjola (trumpet), Tuomo Prättälä (piano), Antti Lötjönen (bass) and Olavi Louhivuori (drums) is a mainstay in the Finnish scene and the band has been steadily developing their sound for nearly two decades now. It could be said that the group's musicians, each also a solo artist of note these days, has grown with and through performing together with this regularly working quartet. Ilmiliekki Quartet's music has a song-like melodic quality, which pairs naturally with their often freeform search for new musical landscapes.

As testament of Ilmiliekki Quartet being a Band with a capital B, the songs on the new album come from each of the four members. As before, the band also takes a borrowed tune in for a loving rendition, this time tackling "Aila" by the Finnish dream pop group Karina. All in all, there's a deep, moody element to the music, yet at the same time, their sound flows with remarkable ease and lightness of touch. This brings out a wide range of color in their music, which is easy to fall in love with.

The sky was a radiant shade of pink. There was little else but for the occasional shadow of a bird or a plane which passed against the hazy backdrop. A dozen sunbeams poured down upon the hill, the last of the daylight would soon vanish only to be replaced by a glowing expanse of stars and planets millions of miles away.

Perhaps this was all a mirage? A wild dream or a fantasy? Perhaps none of this was real and here they were down on earth being watched by something greater than they could comprehend? Ah well, even if it was as such, at least it was a pretty picture.

Purelink feature first on a newly launched record label in the form of UwU dust bath. The debut outing is a dreamy affair which touches upon elements of downtempo and idm. The record is rounded off by crucial remixes from local artists including Nice Girl - a producer who has built a keen following with releases on the likes of Public Possession.

"The piece opens with a spotlight on Thayer’s musicality with the marimba. As a wooden percussion instrument with an expressive and notably warm timbre, the opening of “Akaku” sets a very natural tone. One might wonder if the piece will unfold as a presentation of modern percussion performance, which given the marimba’s capability to execute a four part arrangement, would certainly be musically stimulating on its own.  It only takes the first 10 seconds however, to notice Thayer subtly add in splashy electronic undertones, which are blended together with other percussive beats in a beautifully uniform way, which makes differentiating between the growing coexistence of this acoustic and digital instrumentation almost impossible. The central melody itself has a sort of propulsive character, starting and stopping somewhat abruptly and without pursuance of predictable phrasing." - Kira Grunenberg
