Stella's album War Bride is one of those works of art that leave me so changed after experiencing them. It was instrumental for me in understanding the ghosts that accompany me on the dance floor, so I was humbled that she was able to create something for this project. Her mixtape "Dream Jumble" is a performance of original productions, emotional selections, and fragmented vocal samples, whispering like a haunting upon the ancestral beat.

@amazondotcom is the project of Stella Ahn, a Korean-American electronic music producer based in Los Angeles. Currently she is interested in collapsing genre, meaning, and musical expectation. She uses intuition and a free-form approach to building structure, rhythms, and sounds.

001 - Amazondotcom - Dream Jumble

With a name like “Le Matin” - French for “the morning” - one could be forgiven for expecting something mellow. Gritty drums are layered over revolving time signatures, taking inspiration from footwork, grime, hip hop and rave. Le Matin celebrates the power of a vocal sample, chopping, reconstructing, looping to infinity and re-emerging with momentary clarity before diving back into disarray. Claiming that “we can change the party”, or “I just took my first shot”, his sense of humour is as strong as his sense of rhythm. Noisy hits pan and shake from one side to the other, turning the body to butter, Le Matin is a master of deranged patterns. Simple yet effective, his latest release is sure to unhinge any joint.

Baba Sy is a Senegalese dj based in Barcelona, where he has redefined his current sound language after a journey of musical exploration in an original club context but which has flowed into research from places where he was allowed a freer experimentation.

He is co-founder of the musical collective Jokkoo, from where they spread and create the most electronic and avant-garde sound of Africa and its diaspora and through which he tries to create a community with which to share and build spaces where artistic expression is not limited.
Projects such as DEER, where he has written and performed in Wolof (his mother tongue) on the electronic bases of the producer Aiiom, or Pasaporte man are some of the alter egos he has created in recent years to express his creativity and give voice to his deepest concerns.
