Society is in crisis - and we need guidance. One part medicine man and two parts adventurer, The Phantom Whistler is the Australian mystic and gun-for-hire blazing trails across the untamed Wild West. Sheriffs say he's an odd stick, a high noon drifter folding music into wistful states of consciousness; lawmakers paint him as outright dangerous, a counter-culture iconoclast with a dicey reputation/taste for treasure.

The ambient opener' Universal Wisdom' dispatches lessons amongst a lattice of synths and sounds. 'We are spiritual beings having a human experience', the sage guru relays, opening the circle in a didactic fashion.

A soft, deep house throb welcomes the listener to 'Project MK Ultra': Digestible melodies swirl around a shiny harmonica, a trademark whistle, and a vocal discussing past wrongs done by the powers that be; the massive breakdown a tight allegory for the societal tension looking to break.

'Strike a Match' is seductive, offering sweet leaf etiquette as a big middle finger to stifling authority. With guitars dripping in chorus pedals and a fat 4/4 engine, this one has it all: sex, drugs and rock n roll — Wild West style.

Although Robert and Sam have been doing music together as umami for almost nine years, „In Exchange For Everything“ is their first album. This name is an actual description of what happened. They literally did not release anything else for two years while working on the album. It was like a spaceship with a broken engine that needed to be fixed. But now it is ready to take off.
The tracks and songs on the album are all trying to capture a specific kind of feeling. The way you feel when you are riding up in an elevator made of glass, see the sunrise on the horizon and know that this is the first day of the rest of your life.
	Some of them are made for the club, like „Behind The Wheel“ or „Stank“. Others have a more laid-back vibe. „Number Of The Beast“, a cover of an Iron Maiden song, is a dance around the bonfire, summoning devils and demons.  „Stars“ is about a journey into the intimacy of really knowing another person, with hammering synths and airy vocals, which are performed by Sam, like all other vocals on the album.
	The one exception to this is are the vocals on "Terra Mount". These are written and performed by Monolink, the only other artist featured on the album. Enchanted organs and choirs accompany his lyrics throughout the song.
	The album ends with the magical "And Stay With Me There Forever", a song that slowly transforms from a small stream of fragile sounds to an avalanche of bass and synths.
All in all, „In Exchange For Everything“ is the big statement umami wanted to make with their first album. Something that shows the whole spectrum of what they want to achieve with this project and a hint about where the journey goes.

'Lush rhythms, melodies, and sound design come together in harmony when it comes to Fulltone’s music. The Egyptian producer’s latest lands on All Day I Dream as part of its A Winter Sampler compilation, and it’s a track not to miss. “Whole Lotta Winters” is anything but cold, instead warming the heart and mind with intricate drum patterns and wistful synth melodies dance around hollow chimes, sweeping the mind far away from the snow and onto a sunny, outdoor dance floor. It becomes clear why Fulltone has been steadily climbing the deep house ranks as of late. 

A Winter Sampler is an annual compilation by Lee Burridge’s beloved All Day I Dream imprint that is meant to embrace the winter sun. Its 2019 edition features 13 tracks by label legends Newman, Rowee, Roy Rosenfeld, and more, in addition to some heavy newcomers like Hermanez and Simon Vuarambon. Like the label it’s on, the compilation plays out like a dream. '

Premiere: Fulltone - Whole Lotta Winters [All Day I Dream]

Number twenty on San Francisco’s Manjumasi is the second solo artist EP from label co-founder atish. With the Warbler EP, atish presents a pair of original tracks that showcase strange and unique melodic stylings across two distinct energy levels, both featuring eerie and compelling string sounds with heavy use of creative effects. The title track, Warbler, has a solid late-night dance floor groove with a lush and haunting synth line anchoring the mid-range groove. Abyss takes things deeper, again veering into eerie sonic territories with vocal pads floating throughout the mix. This one sits in a more restrained rhythmic territory, well suited to the mood-setting opening hours.

The package features three top-notch remixes from a collection of very serious producers. Sweden’s Dorisburg turns in an incredibly heady interpretation of Abyss, with sparkling glassy pads juxtaposed against a bouncing synth bassline. Melodic master Rodriguez Jr. takes Warbler in a different direction, weaving the original elements into a tapestry of his signature arpeggios and synth crescendos. Lastly, Fort Romeau turns in an energetic Warbler mix, anchored by a long-building stabby bassline that develops into a real acid-tinged driver.
