A regular contributor to the finest dance music imprints of the underground scene, Simos Tagias makes a welcome debut on Meanwhile with his 'Euphoria' EP.

Bursting onto the scene in late 2012 and early 2013 with a clutch of releases on Modu and Lynx Records, Simos Tagias has overseen a career path with a steady upwards trajectory that has since seen some 400 production credits to his name. Indeed, Clubsonica Records, Mango Alley and Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music have all played regular host to the Greek artist’s work, not to mention successful releases on Cid Inc.’s Replug and Aly & Fila’s hugely successful FSOE.

Now opening his account on GMJ & Matter’s ever-growing Meanwhile, 'Euphoria' immediately impresses as a collage of elements fly across the sonic spectrum while a clicking ambient effect and grooved percussion provide dance floor character. Building in effervescent fashion, reversed synth motifs vie with delicately delayed phrases as a plethora of spot effects swim enticingly around the listener’s head. Winding up after a dizzying breakdown, the third movement carefully combines all the elements introduced in the earlier stages through a mind-melting melange of frequencies that pitches and falls in an innovative wall of sound Phil Spector would be proud of.

'Emotion' is a high-octane offering powering forward with chest-thumping kick and immaculately syncopated percussive groove. White noise infused synth motifs soon fill the sonic spectrum as a rapid-fire 16th note bassline carries the melodic elements with ease. Full of emotion and beautifully flowing synth lines, the track reaches its musical zenith at the breakdown before hitting its stride in the second half where all elements converge in lay lines of raw power and emotion.

Jeremy Olander ends 2016 on a strong note with 'Caravelle.' As you may or may not know, Collective States (formerly Mongo) are very avid sci-fi fans (so much so it drives us f#*king mad to be honest)! So it’s our great pleasure (or pain depending on which side of the fence you sit on) to attach a cheeky nod to the forthcoming Blade Runner sequel. Taking influence from the 1982 original soundtrack, this track has been pricking up the ears of some of the early recipients including John Digweed (who has featured it on his Transitions show several times recently), Sasha, Kolsch and big High Tide Recordings label supporter, James Zabiela.  

It’s been a great summer for Collective States with both their “Krypton and “Planet Mongo” releases charting highly in Beatport whilst picking up support across the spectrum of dance music from the likes of Carl Cox, Hot Since 82, Joris Voorn, Deadmau5, Jamie Jones, Dubfire, Eats Everything, Sasha, John Digweed, Alan Fitzpatrick, Kaiserdisco and James Zabiela to name but a few. Sound Avenue begins the new year by showcasing new interpretations of Madloch and Subnode's 'Lion's Mane'. Originally landing in March of last year it marked the Belgian imprints 100th release. Backed by remixes from Navar and Bookwood, the project earned praise from progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Guy J. It continued what has been a creative partnership between the Belgian artists, ultimately leading to new studio experiments due out later this year. Sound Avenue now re-visits the duo's 'Lion's Mane', by inviting Dmitry Molosh and B.A.X. to re-interpret the track for 2020.

Returning to the label and providing the first interpretation of 'Lion's Mane' is Dmitry Molosh. The Belarus based artist continued to dominate the progressive music landscape in 2019, showcasing his music on Beatfreak Recordings, Beat Boutique, Replug and Sudbeat Music. Now getting the new year underway in fine fashion Dmitry delivers a powerful rendition of 'Lion's Mane'. Always a creative remixer, the Belarus native deconstructs the main elements into something decidedly more progressive minded, for what sits as an ideal complement to the original. Atop a tough, punchy foundation comes buzzing stabs and striking percussion, resulting in a unique contrast of character and groove. It's a remarkable sonic marriage, one which makes for a hugely energetic journey, elegantly peaking through an emotive break, before an exhilarating final act puts a cap on this chugging gem.

Rounding out the release and providing the second and final interpretation of 'Lion's Mane' is B.A.X. The Vietnamese artist has found a home on Sound Avenue subsidiary 3rd Avenue where he has appeared three times. Also laying claim to releases on Droid9, fryhide and MNL, B.A.X. now makes his much-anticipated Sound Avenue debut with a gorgeous take on 'Lion's Mane'. Timeless and haunting in equal measure, it's unique beat pattern, ghostly wails and melodic fragments make for a compelling intro. It's free flowing narrative builds on a more esoteric slant as impassioned pads and scintillating arps converge as the break commences. Tasteful pianos and icy overlays make for an emotive interlude, resonating on a profound level and perfectly transferring energy into a glowing finale. A stunning remix from B.A.X., rounding out a superb remix edition for Madloch, Subnode and Sound Avenue to begin the new year.

Welcome GNTN on Einmusika. Together with Artche they created a wonderful warm journey. Both tracks have a strong hookline paired with atmospheric synth sounds. Cid Inc turned the title track "Tensions" into a more reduced and clubby version.
