Originally debuted on Dixon’s formidable Essential Mix in September, Downtown Party Network ft Egle Sirvydyte dropped ‘Space Me Out’ on Silence Music along with remixes from Musk, Mario Basanov and Hannes Fischer back in 2013. After much critical acclaim and being well-played by many top-djs, the track is now remixed by Downtown Party Network into this sparkling 2014 version. Since it will not be officially released by any label, you can exclusively download this re-take on one of the hottest tracks last year at Deep House Amsterdam. Enjoy!

For the month of April's 'Live' mix we welcome 2 legends from the dub techno scene that we were super happy to welcome behind the Eastern Bloc Decks.

First up 'Ohm' (bjarnar jonsson) the Icelandic producer who has been heavily involved within the scene for the past 30 years steps up with releases on some of dub techno's biggest hitters including Thule records, Kontakt, Taped Artifact, Vade mecum, Vuo records and AE Recordings which he co-ran with Octal Industries and Thor from Thule Records. A label owner himself his 'Ohm Series' label has been steadily releasing music since 2021.

Alongside him 'Kvadrant' (Johnny Fredsgaard) a Danish producer who was a resident on the legendary TweakFM, and runs one of the most healthy and well respected dub techno labels out there currently- Kontakt records. With past artists including - Substance, Mike Schommer, Grad_U, Ohm, VRIL, JS Zeiter, Luke Hess & Octal Industries.

I'm sure you'll agree it's a beautifully put-together 4 hours of deep washy goodness.

" Myself and Johnny came over to honour an invite from our brothers in Music : Quadrant Soundscape. When we first came the place felt small, a little pub thing, but we felt good, the vibe in there just felt good. The hosts started playing some good tracks, the sound system felt big in such a small place. 

We started and it got packed, in such a way that it felt perfect to play some records for the crowd. I love small clubs with big systems and Eastern Bloc was the real deal. Four hours we played, one record at a time and the mood and vibe just kept building. Lots of happy people listening and dancing, it felt surreal and I would do it over and over again. "

Nothing Better to get different visions of a Mental State that to have three different people doing it. And with it our Mental Picks go on again three different artists , three different live experiences , three different ways to understand music and no limits on it . For this release we get back our not that newbies Mobile Soul System the Russian duo sended to us this track and we couldnt say no , minimalistic Deep sound with amazing groove and dark vocals as shown in past tracks in our label. For the second cut one artists that we really like Dave James released in labes like Little Helpers , Naked Lunch among others and having other alias where he does his best in Techno that we also love. His analogic roots can be felt in this track and also the the british underground close to those techno variants that will make you enjoy from the start till the end. For last track a new collaboration by label boss Eddy Romero together with the label boss of Lonely Owl Records Mikel Gil they met in a showcase of the last label and they decided to do this mentalistic experiment and thats the result.

He doesn't need any introduction, we know Anton from the very beginning with his releases as SCSI-9 with his partner Maxim on "Force Tracks".

As we get deep into the winter, we have decided to take inspiration from those who know how to zone out and party hard in the icy cold conditions better than anyone else... here for the first of 3 Icelandic artists on 3 consecutive episodes on Avenue Red throughout December, we welcome Ísar Logi Arnarsson AKA COLD from Reykjavík.

Forever a legend on Icelandic techno powerhouse Thule Records, with his Hyper Experience EP (THL001) opening the account back in 1995, Ísar quickly gained the attention of many including Sven Väth, who played the record shortly after it was released to close out his set at the Berlin Love Parade. However, things then went cold (!) on the production front, with him reawakening again in 2017 full of ideas and inspiration, leading to a 6-track release on the experimental new Thule sister label AE Recordings, soon followed by his Dub Safari EP on Thule earlier this year.

Here COLD has delivered an impeccably dark, groovy set full of rigid, sharp, bare-bones beats with some tribal overlays, all mingled with those trademark deep, breezy dub-laden Icelandic techno vibes we are all big fans of over in this corner.

"The underground music scene in Iceland is pretty active considering the size and number of people, primarily in Reykjavik of course. We have a few venues that make it their goal to accommodate both live performances and DJ's, mostly locals with the occasional international visitor to spice things up. I don't need to go far to get inspiration from the dance floor. My fellow Icelandic producers have been my biggest motivators and inspiration... I can't thank them enough!

About this mix: I started by collecting all the music/artists that I found to be inspiring me at the moment and found a way to coalesce it into a tight but blissful, thumping club mix. I picked out a handful of my all-time favourites and some fresh Icelandic ones. Then I ground the songs down to their elements and started the merry-go-round, but as the mix progresses I give the songs more space to breathe and evolve. This is the kind of music that would have me dancing for hours with my eyes closed, with images of larger than life scenery in my mind." Ísar Logi Arnarsson, December 2018

Avenue Red Podcast #118 - COLD

Next up for our winter season of artists from the Icelandic deep techno hive, we welcome Jonas Thor Gudmundsson AKA Ruxpin AKA Octal Industries. This amazing 1 hour of deep, dubby, industrial machine techno sounds is released under his Octal Industries moniker... why? Because it is a live improvised electronics performance of mostly unreleased Octal Industries materials.

Now living in Tallin, Estonia, this guy is an absolute legend in our view, having released many strings of mind-bending releases since the late 90's on some magical labels (including Thule Records) and leaving a frothing wake of highly sought after deep/dub techno releases. Since the early days of his career he has collaborated with some of the most talented artists from Iceland including Yagya, Árni Valur Kristinsson and OHM, and also with some from further afield including Rod Modell and Michael Sickinger from the USA. Despite this rich artistic legacy, it is clear from his words below and this live mix before you now, that his musical story is still unravelling with lots more exciting chapters soon to come.

"On the 28th of November 2018 I sat down and did a little studio mix - compiled with loops and samples from mostly unreleased tracks from my vault. Some of the songs are my creation and others are collaboration work with my good friend OHM. I don't think the plan is to somehow showcase a current live set, but rather to showcase what listeners might expect with the releases upcoming in 2019. I'm trying to find some middle-ground between dancefloor and home listening. Not sure if that works, but we'll see.

There are some interesting releases in the pipeline, mostly done in collaboration with OHM. There will be 12" releases on the legendary Rawax, Luck Of Access (a new label run by Andrey Pushkarev), and also a digital release on Gartenhaus. I have an ambient techno-style LP ready in my archives, which I'll throw out myself digitally (or by other means) when I find a proper gap in the release schedule. I'll also have a track featured on a compilation from Unknown Tribe. Anyway, lots of good things on the horizon and I'm sure that 2019 will be as fruitful as the previous years have been for me." In 2001 Markus Lang (aka Plastique) founded the then Berlin based label Eintakt.
As it was first thought as a platform for his collaborations (Project name : Einklang freier Frequenzen) with Telly Quin it quickly became a melting pot for many-faceted influences of good old and refreshing new friends.

The main philosophy behind Eintakt is to keep alive what is mostly misunderstood as the electronic underground – to speak clearly: it's not about building up an elitist circle of people nobody else can get in, it's more about doing your own thing, sometimes far off what may be cool at the moment, but therefor even more enthusiastic, open-minded & honest without being too serious (it's dance music, it should be fun as well shouldn't it?)

Next to Eintakt Markus runs Hot Content (for the more personal stuff of “Einklang freier Frequenzen), Rare (for the more funky stuff) and Townhousemusic (for deep oldshool house music), Rauhphaser (for digital markets) as some kind of sublabels.
