Die Synkope (griechisch'; von syn „zugleich“, und kope „Schlag“) ist ein musikalisches Gestaltungsmittel, welches das Betonungsschema eines Taktes aufbricht, indem es eigentlich unbetonte Schläge betont und somit rhythmische Spannung erzeugt.[1] Letztere Spannung wird auch oft dadurch erreicht, dass Melodienoten gegenüber dem Viertelnoten-Grundrhythmus des Taktes verschoben werden, meistens durch Einfügen von Achtelnoten.
