“Overall Stardust ✨”

Hey! Thank you for being here and enjoy the fruits of hard work. I have been making music on a daily basis since the year of 2011, back when I was in my freshman year of high school, but my first projects were made in 2008, back when I was in my sophomore year of junior high. Making music has always been a key element in my life because it is a talent we all share in my family. 

I started with a Gateway computer running Windows 7 and FL Studio 9. Then I landed on Ableton Live, the DAW that took my heart by storm. I finally arrived at what would become my true musical endeavour: sampling old records on an MPC. This all would become something like a musical dream since I started wanting to make songs without a DAW or PC for that matter. 

I went down on a scavenger hunt and found the Tascam Model line up and bought a Model 24.

This machine helped me as it was an entry level product for DAWless production. That’s how songs such as “It’s On” or “Yall Hedz” came to be. By producing then on an MPC plugged straight on to the PC serving as a hub to the Tascam Model 24. So I created my debut album “ArK Of All Trades” a Frankenstein mix between DAWless production and a dance made by both FL Studio and Ableton. 

Now, I’m working on my Sophomore Album.

So to me this is simple, to just make songs I think are “listenable” since I had a pretty rocky start on this. People would tell I’m -not- cut for this (ouch). So I’m not here to chase clout or claiming a fame pass. I produce the songs that come from the gut of my heart and the truth of my soul.

Speaking of truth, I was also a drug addict who had to battle addiction against drugs such as cocaine and 2-CB. It was the worst 8 years of my life. I started smoking pot on a weekly basis in my sophomore year of high school, something that escalated. I still remember my female classmates hating on me because I would come to class high as fuck and smelling of weed. It was all crazy bad, but it was part of my story. I wouldn’t deny part of my history since it has always been what fuels what I put on my lyrics.

Speaking of another more hard hitting truth: I’m a native speaker of the Spanish language. This is because I was born in Chile.

Chavez the Fisherman is an artist working in music and visual art. He grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona, far from hip-hop’s origins. In 1986, a cassette labeled “Beat Street” lit the spark. 

The sound, which he called “the music with all the talking,” took hold. Reggae followed. Nothing else stuck. In college, he picked up guitar.  Sublime, Beastie Boys, Tribe, Fugees, and Rage Against the Machine all shaped his fusion of storytelling and rhythm. He released Underground Truths and Mainstream Lies and Things More Real Than This in the 2000s. 

His new album Haunted By Hymns, self-produced and dropping soon, blends acoustic loops, dusty drums, and half-sung prayers. He also paints as Man Art Nation, exploring masculinity, wilderness, and silence in oil, ink, and linocut. For Chavez, music and art come from the same place. He does not chase a genre. He follows the work.  Hip-hop as art.
