With over 40,000 streams of his improvised Live & Locked Down show on Facebook and drawing acclaim from legends such as Nick Warren, Rob Da Bank and DJ EZ, TR aka Tom Robinson has gone from the bedroom to the main-room.

The ‘Hardcore’ EP, like every TR record, started life as a live jam before becoming a fully composed piece of music. It’s this creative organic flow that makes his music utterly engaging and unique to him. And whilst you could draw comparisons to artists such as Kornel Kovacs, Hidden Spheres and John Talabot, it’s not really worth the effort as TR is very much his own man.

The Hardcore EP further establishes this personal sound in which complexity, imagination and originality again combine to create beats that are simply great - you can crank it up and dance or dial it down and unwind - so good!

TR - Afterthoughts [Blah Blah Blah Records]

This track was the first product of my custom live jamming set up built in Ableton Live and Max4Live. The set up attempts to remove the barriers to creativity and immediate music making - enabling me to quickly select instruments, record new clips, add effects, resample, mixdown, reroute and mash up the audio as quickly as possible.

In this track, the instruments are mostly Arturia Analog Lab, Samples From Mars drum racks and one or two of Ableton's instruments. There are various effects, including a few Max4Live effects I built specifically for this set up. I also use a custom template in Touchable on the iPad to control the various effects using the touch screen.

This track was mostly recorded and sequenced in one session of about 3 hours. The track was then mixed and mastered separately.

My take on a very beautiful song by singer songwriter Ceitidh Mac. Turns out she's the sister of an ex-colleague who thought I might be interested in remixing one of her tracks. I took one listen and fell in love with her graceful tones and enigmatic prose. Here is the result.
