On Friday, October 1st, Tropical Events turned 23 in Portland, at our 90th in-person event since October 1998!

Closing out the night from 1:30-3:00am was Jamie Schwabl, Tropical's resident DJ newly transplanted from LA to Portland.

I really love what she did with it, slowing things down a bit with super groovy, deep, unique music that dancers were really vibing with.  

People need to hear different music and Jamie always delivers that, I loved seeing her so locked in with the crowd at the end, and was delighted to also hear many compliments to her ♡

This was our 10th edition of Wildwood in the beautiful Otway ranges rainforest. A magical place which has grown and brought so many beautiful souls together. Everyone got into the festive spirit and took a trip down the rabbit hole with an Alice In Wonderland themed tea party. I played on the final day, 3:30pm to 6:30pm, saluting the sunset as I always love doing. Wildwood is such a special place and there really is no where else in the world I would rather play. Thanks to everyone for always making it such a special place xx

Their love of heavy layering and deep rolling low ends produce an addictive futuristic minimal techno vibe in their productions and live sets. Dance Spirit has graced the stages of world-class festivals and events such as Coachella, Desert Hearts, Piknik Electronic, City Fox, Lightning in a Bottle, and Sacbe. They are also residents of the infamous Flying Circus parties.

Their music catalogue has released on some of the industry’s most highly esteemed labels such as Supernature, Rebellion, Get Weird, Maison D’Etre, Superfreq, Kindisch, Culprit, Akbal Music, and Endless, No. 19, and Connaisseur Recordings. As you might have guess, Dance Spirit has been making well-crafted waves in the music scene and always on the rise.

This initially started off as a mix of our favorite electronica tunes, but we started going through our personal vaults and found we had a surprising amount of material that would constitute the perfect ambient mix while showcasing a different shade of color other than dance. We had a lot of fun doing this and are very grateful for the opportunity to show this side of our production art.

Ekbalu is the alias of Melbourne based DJ and co-founder of Wildwood Events, Adrian Clemente. He is renowned for his unique, ethereal sound and the contagious vibe he creates on dance floors. From hypnotic downtempo layered with organic cultural influences to mind altering melodic techno. Unifying these sounds into an emotional journey is what Ekbalu has earned a reputation for. A reputation which has allowed him to warm up for world class artists such as Sasha, Jeremy Olander, JOBE, DAVI, Roger Martinez and Jan Blomqvist. His maturity as an artist was cemented when he was chosen to fill in for a cancelled Dominik Eulberg to close Babylon Festival 2018. 

Adrian is a fun loving and joyful character to say the least, feeling most at home amongst the outdoor elements. It is not often you see someone’s infectious personality translate into their DJ sets, but somehow he manages to do just that with a big cheeky grin on his face.
