All any DJ touching down in San Francisco needs is Nikola Baytala's number on speed dial. Whether you're a frequent visitor or a virgin to the West Coast city, it's imperative to call on him for an in-the-know tour of the City's finest spots.

Apart from underground SF expeditions, Baytala's legacy comprises some of the most kinetic and dynamic club tracks ever released, an eclectic record collection so big it requires its own postcode and a vintage car and bike collection nicely referenced in the artwork for his first release on Pets Recordings. 

The ‘Nikola Baytala’ EP sees Baytala explore his far reaching influences with the help of Myles Egner (with label bosses, Catz ‘N Dogz, and fellow SanFranciscans, Pillow Talk, on remix duties.) 

Opening track, ‘Zero $’ carves out a chugging 4x4 beat that soon becomes overrun with dark and dischordant synth tones and a stripped back bass line that buzzes with reverb. This is house at its most ominous.

B2 - Nikola Baytala - Cityz Angels (MT'S Pillowtalk remix) - snippet

Before the recent rise in '90s style psychedelic, ambient influenced electronic music, one of the only producers offering up this kind of hallucinatory revivalism was A Sagittariun. On the ‘Minor Malfunction’ single, the one born under the 9th sign returns to Dense & Pika’s Kneaded Pains, with a brace of linear techno jams.

The Bristol based, techno dream weaver, has always operated on the Outer Rim of the techno and electronica galaxy, but has, and remains, a sound shaper and influencer, via releases for esteemed labels such as Running Back, Idle Hands, Hypercolour, Craigie Knowes, and his own Elastic Dreams imprint.
