The Rabbit, according to the Chinese lunar calendar, symbolizes longevity, peace, and most suitable for the Unchained trajectory, creativity.  

Each year we set out to collate a mélange of ambiguous club-ready electronic whilst doing our part to cross that apparent divide between drum ‘n’ bass, jungle, footwork, grime and other members of the extended bass family.

We haven’t always been wed to the massive banger alone, but we have to admit, we always will be obsessed. We don’t consider ourselves possessed by sonic slabs that are looped beyond recognition, but we hold them in high regard just the same. 

So with that in mind, curating the Year of the Rabbit compilation took some time this year.

The Year Of The Rabbit showcases artists both emerging and established from China, Russia, England, Holland, and the United States. Be it wonky, divergent, mutant, deep, or simply in the vein of the pure epic club banger, every producer has something remarkable and distinctive going on.

We introduce and welcome back our 2023 Year of the Rabbit artist crew: Subp Yao, Radiax, Lakeway, Danky, Neve, Harka, Doctor Jeep, Leo Cap, Kray, Trophy, Airstrike, Throe, Pllfry and Dynamic Stab.

Label boss Fracture presents Turbo, an 8 track compilation encapsulating the energetic technoid hybrid sound he’s been pushing in his DJ sets and productions for the last 18 months. Never one to sit still and get comfortable for too long,

Fracture hits the nitro and changes lane and heads for the fertile early stages of blurred lines and new sounds to lay down a marker with an exciting display of up tempo and fresh sounding 160bpm+ music. Featuring a mix of Astrophonica heavy weights and new faces we bring you… Turbo.

Opening with ‘Get Raw’, Fracture pilots a ruthless kick drum, loose tribal percussion and urgent stabs to create a horrifically compelling and ritualistic groove which keeps you slave to its rhythm.

‘You Don’t Know’ sees Moresounds arrive via hyperspace from a seemingly empty sub low expanse to launch a surprise attack of caustic 303 sprays and strangulating kick drums.

Sam Binga and ONHELL’s ‘A Mighty Quest’ is pure phuture jacking dance floor workout. No need for the gym after this one. Werk!

Bristol’s long time tempo experimenter Addison Groove leaps into the Astrophonica catalogue with ‘Redeye’, a typically infectious concoction of catchy vocal riffs and acidic hooks sewn together in a supple and elastic arrangement

Hyrogliphics’ ‘Aura’ is pure comedown music with blurry reverb washed euphoria slowly brought back to reality with crystalline production and prickly percussion swells. An audio bean bag.

Arrid hifi percussion cracks and creaks under sunset synths as the dust settles on an abrasive discovery in Lewis James’ ‘Kit 5000’.

Philip D Kick returns to Astrophonica with ‘Bleach’, an acrid stench of trademark footwork jungle rhythms and a corrosive 303 line designed to unblock any dance floor. Seek immediate medical help if ingested.

Long time collaborators Fracture and Sam Binga close the compilation with ‘EBP’, a captivating journey through mystical physicality with tough electro production and giddy rushes of serotonin inducing emotions.

Notorious for blurring the lines between footwork, rave, grime and jungle all rushing along at the 170bpm marker, Samurai hits us with a high energy dance floor banger of a dopamine ride with heavy bass pressure, turbo drums and a nostalgic vocal sample. Elastic Rhythms brings forth one of our most anticipated EP's with one of the DNB community's most celebrated, rising Italian producers - NEVE. Label boss of The Dreamers Recordings, NEVE birthed two turbo rave essentials featuring the title track 'Softcore' with collaborative efforts from bass ninja Samurai Breaks from Leeds UK. This EP features the eclectic B-side 'Swheat' which takes us on a hypnotic ascension to the hardcore Juke heavens and beyond. With the deep focus of our mission being to push forward-focused Juke and Hybrid Rave music, this EP serves an absolute testament to that mission, and further extends our sonic imagination of the sound of the future. If D&B, Hardcode, Halftime & Juke had a baby, it would be the unique and one of a kind sound of NEVE's 'Softcore' EP, here on Elastic Rhythms.
