Polk St. is a song for people who spent a year convincing their begrudging boyfriend to move from California (his dreamland) to New York (his personal hell) only to realize how much they missed California (their home) at the first sight of yellow snow... This song is also for people who then realized they could never possibly say this to said boyfriend without seeming like a total asshole, so they decided to get their feelings out in SONG instead. I really hope this song finds those people.

In writing the lyrics, Taia leaned into the lighthearted cynicism that comes most naturally, drawing inspiration from sweet and dark writers Father John Misty, Phoebe Bridgers, and Frankie Cosmos. The chorus pays tribute to Joni Mitchell, while the electric and acoustic guitars emulate the chugging warmth of a The Mamas & The Papas song. But the song really finds its groove when an Our Song by Taylor Swift inspired violin joins the show in verse 2, and builds towards a Lizzie McGuire movie inspired ooh-woah at 2:48. This californiacore bop may not be for the fainthearted, but it is for fans of California, New York City (in all its gritty glory), Soccer Mommy, indie rock hyper pop, and eating cookie dough on a pile of trash.
