At 26 years old, David Neves is one of the most active and exciting trumpet players in New York and Boston’s jazz scene. A native of Massachusetts, Neves was awarded a full scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston. There, he was chosen to be a member of the prestigious Berklee Global Jazz Institute. Through this program, David had the privilege of studying with some of the most accomplished and well-known jazz musicians in the world, including Wayne Shorter, Dave Liebman, Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, and George Garzone. Neves then attended the prestigious New England Conservatory where he received his Master’s of Music in Jazz Performance. At NEC, David studied under and with a diverse group of artists, including John McNeil, Laurie Frink, Ralph Alessi, Miguel Zenón, Jason Moran, Fred Hersch, Dave Holland, and Jerry Bergonzi.
A world-class musician, David’s talents have sent him all over the globe to venues such as the 2011 Panama Jazz Festival and the JEN Conferences in both New Orleans and Louisville. In 2010, Neves traveled to Sydney, Australia, where he won first prize in the International Trumpet Guild’s Jazz Solo Competition. He has also performed at the Newport Jazz Festival, Scullers Jazz Club, Regatta Bar, NEC’s Jordan Hall, and the Berklee Performance Center.
For the last two years, Neves has been in a rotation of young musicians who regularly perform at Wally’s Jazz Cafe, a historic venue located in downtown Boston. He plays both as a sideman and a bandleader. It was at this club where he met the famed trumpeter Jason Palmer, one of David’s most influential musical mentors.
Inspired by collaboration, Neves has been honored to record with numerous jazz artists. Some of the albums he appears on include Dedication with drummer Brendan Day and Birds of a Feather with guitarist Roy Guzman, both released on Berklee’s Jazz Revelation Records. Mario Castro’s debut Primavera, released in 2012 on Greg Osby’s Inner Circle Music label, also features Neves. In February 2014, David independently released Progress Report, his first full-length album as a leader and composer. This project debuts intriguing, all-original music, and David is joined by some of the finest young musicians in Boston and New York.
David is currently attending The Juilliard School to pursue his Artist Diploma in Jazz Studies under the direction of Wynton Marsalis, Kenny Barron, Eddie Henderson and Rodney Jones.

The first thing you notice when you hear Kelly and The Hermanos is that they’ve melted together. Singer Kelly Bartley’s mermaid voice masterfully intertwines with The Hermanos; Johnny Simon Jr. – Electric Guitar; Tommy Lee Bohlen – Pedal Steel Guitar, Mandolin; Michael Haziza – Bass, Vocals, Banjo; Javier Cruz – Drums, Vocals, Mandolin, over reverb fueled nuances and careful instrumentation that spins around your head before it spills into your heart. Their debut album, “Underwater Western” brought them an audience stretching beyond the Boston roots where they formed in 2011. Since relocating to Brooklyn, they’ve strung up a stream of shows at Joes Pub, Rockwood Music Hall, and The Rodeo Bar. Kelly and The Hermanos have also been featured in blogs by Glamour Magazine and the world renowned music streaming service Grooveshark. Brooklyn’s new balladeers explore a range of emotions, soundscapes and atmospheres in their music with a lyrical poignancy and a sweet country touch that’ll send chills up your spine. While some songs transport listeners down cozy cold cabin winters lit up with big choruses like in “Lay It Down”, others, like their jumpy tune, “Where’d She Go”, sound like a circus roller-skating through a Harlem summer afternoon before blinking you into a 1950’s-esque guitar solo. You just never know where their songs will take you. Kelly and The Hermanos’ music is richly composed with a sense of timelessness to them that’s been beautifully charged with enough southern charm to engage listeners on a personal level and will keep you wanting more.
