I've recently switched to just using some analog synths & drum machine to make it easier to perform live. what I've posted recently is my experiment into live recording. All the new tracks here were recorded live, in one take. No editing, no mixing.

WAGON BURNA (previously known as Canoe)

is the beat machine behind Roots&Bass Recordings and is known for his boom-bap drum programming, heavy bass lines and psychedelic-ganja vibes. His roots stem way back into the early 80’s,listening to hip hop, break dancing with kids in school and at local public pools. He bought his first 7″ vinyl record, which was Midnite Star’s “Freak-A-Zoid”. In 1986 his mom Linda, bought him his first tape which was Run DMC’s ‘Raising Hell, since then he’s been hooked!

The love of bass lines paved his path into break dancing, graffiti, underground parties, DJing (1995), Music Production(1997), Zen Beats Record Store, touring over seas twice, “Debris Meets the Sea” album release, several digital releases, hosting radio shows and creating Roots&Bass Recordings. Wagon Burna has DJ’d alongside Radikal Guru, Joe Nice, King Yoof, Jacky Murda,Sick Note, Pharcyde, Sage Francis, Total Science, Rinse & Flux, JUJU, R.A.W. aka 6BLOCC, Aceyalone & Abstract Rude (A-Team), Phoenix Orion, Gridlock, Sage, Controlled Substance and more.

Wheel up to 1999, Wagon Burna started his own business and opened a record store named Zenbeats in Whittier, California! The underground rave scenes and independent record shops were alive and thriving. Zenbeats supplied the latest and most wanted drum and bass/jungle, hip hop and break beat vinyl records, original Zenbeats shirts, CD’s, graffiti/art supplies and herb smoking accessories. Zen Beats not only catered to the underground culture, Zen Beats was a big part of this culture. Zenbeats threw various in-store performances supporting and promoting numerous local artists such as Bus Driver, Mykah 9, Neila, AWOL, Jedi Mind Tricks, 2Mex, Xoloanxinco, Giant Panda, Abstract Rude, Acid Reign, R.A.W., CRS? and APX1. Zenbeats was painted by the legendary Mear One and the artwork itself became the DJ Rectangle Battle Record! During this time, Zenbeats also released Freestyle Fellowships “Shockadoom E.P.”

Wagon Burna organized the Roots&Bass European Tour in 2006, which featured himself and DankyGirl on a seamless 2×4 turntable jungle routine with classic hip hop and reggae cuts. About 6 months later, they were asked back to tour Europe again and this marked the bass pumping, party rocking Native Resistance tour taking Wagon Burna, DankyGirl and Direct Feed into the blue skies of Baltimore, MD; East Village, NY; DePanne, Brussels & Gent, Belgium; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Vienna, Austria, Olomouc & Jilhava, Czech Republic.

He also co-hosted Roots and Bass Radio  91.1 FM a couple years ago, Earth Science Radio (online, 2005) and then partnered up with DankyGirl in 2006 and started Los Marijuanos Radio. Los Marijuanos Radio broadcasted world wide from Burke St. Studios in Los Angeles, every Monday night for 2.5 years featuring some of So. California’s hardest working DJ’s/MC’s/Producers and some very well known producers/artists like 6BLOCC, Capital J, DJ Vadim, Georgia Muldrow and Dudley Perkins. Online radio streaming was just emerging when they started Los Marijuanos Radio, making the show extremely innovative for it’s time. The Los Marijuanos Radio archives had well over 300,000 downloads.

Wagon Burna is currently releasing new tracks/remixes and throwing bass music events in Northern California…catch him at the next Nice Up event or on Roots&Bass Radio on Sub.FM every month.
