Blood flowers are wounded memories that refuse to let go

Blood Flowers is a heavy duty 4 tracker for the freaks. electro, dungeon techno, slinky acid and tribal excursion - properly damaged party starters for lowlight dreams and nightmares. Over the last 10 years, Mule Driver has been making special 808 day releases. This latest set is his most convincing effort to date, jumping from idea to idea but retaining a solid guideline of sci-fi weirdness and collapsing body movements.

on Unnamed War, maddening backward sounds are backed by a jumpy bass line and a heavy electro beat. Blood Flowers brings the hot middle eastern desert wind over tribal war rhythms, covering the poor drummers with burning sand. Those lost souls keep wandering aimlessly over a rumbling bassline in the Tunnels of track 3. Naqoura, the closing track, brings a hazardous grinding feedback, pounding bass drum and sword-like cymbals, topped with Fata-Morgana-synth-sounds that flicker a glimpse of hope.

PREMIERE: Mule Driver - Tunnels [Confused Machines]

Time had slipped through his fingers, he could barely recollect a moment of the last 12 hours. He’d fallen into another world and left reality behind him, his mind lost in the spaces in-between. Now he had to piece the fragments back together and find a way back to normality.

For the next instalment on Jason Peters’ Roam Recordings, Italian producers Giorgio Giri and Marco Lentano unite under their Mushrooms Project alias for a dose of hypnotic, downtempo cuts. True to their name, psychedelia is the dish of the day, with the duo serving up four tracks that match mind expanding electronics and analog instrumentation.

German electro producer Martin Matiske has recently breathed new life into his Blackploid alias. The project’s revival continues to bear fruit with the Strange Stars EP, Matiske’s third Blackploid release of 2021 and second for Central Processing Unit after issuing March’s Cosmic Traveler EP through the Sheffield label.
Blackploid’s two CPU drops have more in common than just stargazing titles. Those who enjoyed Cosmic Traveler will find plenty to like again in these four tracks, with Matiske serving up another quartet of snappy machine-funk joints this time around. However, while there is certainly a throughline between Cosmic Traveler and Strange Stars, this EP also finds Blackploid pushing the envelope at points by taking risks with his synth tones which thrill and enliven the record.
In keeping with the cosmic theme of Blackploid’s recent output, Strange Stars kicks off with ‘Star Patrol’. While this opening cut is full of the same needle-gun basslines and dinky synths that characterised Cosmic Traveler, the drum programming eschews the broken beats favoured by many in the scene for a straight house/techno snap. It makes for a very groovy jam, one with Drexciya, Computer World-era Kraftwerk and a pinch of Space Dimension Controller in its mix.
Indeed, the only track on Strange Stars which skips along on a broken beat is second entry ‘The Signal’. ‘The Signal’ also features some of Blackploid’s most impressive electronics programming to date, announcing itself with a brilliantly unusual synth that sounds like an old video game unit which has just gained sentience. When this alien tone is combined with another precision-engineered bassline the track invokes the grizzly bangers of the L.I.E.S. label, though the keyboard stabs which enter periodically also hint to the funkier electro of, say, Egyptian Lover.
‘The Unseen’, the first B-side of Strange Stars, finds Blackploid bringing together many of the things which made the two previous tunes such standouts. A steady four-on-the-floor and a slightly haunted feel to the synth choices casts back to ‘Star Patrol’, but much like ‘The Signal’ this joint also features some rather weird tones which are a hair’s breadth away from machine malfunction. It’s a feeling which runs through to closing cut ‘Light Corridor’, a number where melodies and anti-melodies zip around an array of gurgling electronic cells.
Martin Matiske’s fine run of Blackploid EPs continues with the intergalactic electro stylings of Strange Stars.

The inaugural release on Fringe Society’s newborn label ’Polyhymnia Editions’ comes by way of Coy Mistress, aka Olympia Spanou and is a ‘family affair’ as artist and label owner share a dear, close friendship out of which the initial idea of the birth of this label stemmed from.
Coy Mistress is a self-taught electronic musician and producer, poet, clairvoyant/sorceress and trained actress.
This first full length release is the result of her celestial existence travelling through space, time and the dense grit of cement and humans in her city of residence, Berlin.
From the deconstructed songwriting of ‘Emperor’ and ‘Mother’ to the maniacal fury of ‘Crush & Burn’ and ‘The Kiss & The Knot’ (featuring a spoken word by Tzef Montana) to the Coil-esque electronics of ‘Neptune’, this offering by Olympia Spanou is as charming as it is naive in its realisation, but with a killer instinct for otherworldly textures, lyrics/vocals and takes on experiencing life somewhere between concrete and Magick.
The equipment used for this recording is Ableton Live + Push, TC Helicon Voicelive Touch, and a Suzuki Omnichord.

En esta ocasión tenemos un set muy especial con el Live de nuestro amigo @JackWasFaster realizado para el showcase de @rotten-city-records en colaboración con @HonestAllies y @Ballestaclub donde probó varios tracks en los que ha trabajado estos meses. 

En cuanto al equipo involucrado utilizó los sonidos de los Elektron Octatrack, MPC500, DSI mopho desktop, Cyclone TT303, boss blues driver BS2  y un delay tc electronic flashback x4, y otros que incorporará en breve a su nuevo live set.

Tras su paso por la banda Fira Fem (Aloud, Subterfuge) con la que se presentó en los festivales más destacados del país (Sónar, Primavera Sound, FIB, SOS, BBK), Manu Cachero se esconde bajo el alias JackWasFaster para dar rienda suelta a su pasión por la música electrónica.
En sus producciones, DJ sets y live shows, se centra en explorar la cara más sintética del disco, la electrónica de tinte post, el balearic oscuro, la herencia post-punk o el acid más crudo y underground.

En 2020 ha producido tracks para sellos como Inflect (UK), para su casa habitual, Rotten City y estrena un nuevo proyecto de cariz más experimental junto a su partner Johnston&Johnston, bajo el  nombre de Indies With Microkorgs.

Regarding the technical gear, he used Elektron Octatrack, MPC500, DSI mopho desktop, Cyclone TT303, boss blues driver BS2, and more.

After playing in many festivals like Sonar, Primavera Sound, FIB, BBK, with his band Fira Fem, Manu Cachero started his own path in the electronic music scene with his JackWasFaster alias. During his sets, mixes, productions, and live shows, he always focuses on pretty synthetic disco sounds, post punk, dark balearic, or even the most raw and underground acid. 

During this 2020 he's produced tracks for labels like Inflect (UK) and Rotten City. Manu is also starting a new project with a more experimental side, alogside Johnston & Johnston, called Indies With Microkorgs.
