Enter Planet Dust welcomes Frenchman in Berlin, Manuel Jesus aka @world_wild_web to the ranks with the first single from his upcoming LP, Transmutation. Having cut his teeth fronting proto-punk psyche groups in his teenage years, Jesus made several extended trips to India and relocated to Berlin where he set up a studio and joined the artist collective and DIY venue, Loophole. 

World Wild Web's organ and drum machine-led music nods to the global Cosmic continuum, and reminds me of Suicide, Rizan Sa'id, The Monks and more. 'Cursed Fruits' shows off Manuel's dark, nihilistic approach toward catchy organ pop.

Once upon a time, on the eastern bank of The White River, when the fertile lands witnessed the most tremendous flames that had ever occurred, a divine spirit appeared blandly in the foggy waters. Cloaked in black garments, with ink-fish rings adorning every single finger and an ophidian mark on the countenance, the uncanny figure emerged from the water and extinguished the inferno as it slowly walked towards the scorching lands. Known as "Personal Sauveur" by the people, the figure began revealing the essence of the creative life force to the first Kalamari tribe and then vanished swiftly.

At the dawn of a makeshift civilization, the "Personal Sauveur" icon started to be venerated throughout the Kalamari empire. The people chose to forsake their sun-worshipping beliefs and all associated symbols of oppression. Instead, the believers embraced an alternative way of life: harvesting forest fruits under the dark starry nights, transforming their lucid dreams into ritual chants, venerating earthly spirits in plural form, paying reverence to the sacred waters, and transforming every sickness into a profound body of knowledge. For centuries, the Kalamari mankind lived in peaceful harmony until the wicked despots returned and decimated the entire population. It marked the end of an era, so they say...

In 2020, a fortuitous discovery was made when a suitcase filled with mummified ink-fish rings was found in the swampy soils of a Brussels suburb. The antique treasure quickly captivated the Pathfinder's imagination. After some time, he decided to delve deeper into the lost civilization and felt compelled to revive it. He felt a strong sense of duty to embark on the "Personal Sauveur" quest, with everything beginning in the birthplace. As he set foot on the promised land, he found himself amidst dilapidated concrete social projects, shattered ethanol bottles strewn across the streets, GHB-infused strippers haggling at bus stops, and renowned bench street poets.

In the heart of the megalopolis, the trio crossed paths at Bazar Olimpia one day while searching for specific weaponry and began discussing the destruction of symbols of oppression. Soon after, they united their weapons and devised a master plan to rewrite history once more. Drawing inspiration from post-communist and early capitalist field recordings, French-Polish slang slug rhymes, proto-paleo synth wave, and Eastern riddims, the band created a danceable and mesmerizing journey through the shanty town.

The debut album opens with 'Hydra Psalm,' a preaching ode to the tribe believers infused with a kosmische psych-rock undertone. 'Bania Maryja' refers to the symbol of oppression, the Virgin Maria, imposed during the Christian era. It combines Brussels-slang experimental rap with an abyssal scream groove. The terrestrial beat of "Praga Medina" takes you on a lighthearted cruise through the district, capturing all its distinctive delights. 'The Kalamari People' presents a linguistic reinterpretation of the lost tribe dialect through modern calypso-xylo and infectious thumpadumpa rhythms. And last but not least, 'Kikimora' is a mechanical dark-o-punk tribute to the capricious witch of the night.

The mountain was calling out to them from up above, it were as if the peaks themselves were demanding that they be climbed and conquered so as there may be no stone left unturned by man. The clouds hovered thick around each pointed top, in the distance they watched as eagles soared high. It was easy for them, without such fear of falling.

The morning air was cold and brisk as they watched from the riverbank beneath, it seemed an awfully long way up and a very far way to go. Was it worth the risk? To who would their effort be worth?

Soon they would pack up and depart, taking with them all that they could carry. For it was right to leave no trace and heaven forbid they upset the whimsical power of the mountain to crush them beneath its might and weight at any time.

Gem Wallow is set to release a new EP on Barcelona based record label Playground . The record features a fun assortment of downtempo tracks with a pensive slow moving ambience which is almost ritualistic. It's rounded off by remixes from Simple Symnetry and Francis Inferno Orchestra.

Japanese artist Gem Wallow makes her debut on Playground Records with her very first solo Ep 鼓動 KODOU.

A solid piece of art composed by three songs coming from nature and its elements. An Ep that crosses different soundscapes like ancient haikus cross generations. Full of life and organicity, groove and fluidity. An impeccable work that is completed with two epic remixes by the Australian Francis Inferno Orchestra and the brother duo Simple Symmetry, who surf in the waters of psychedelia and krautrock to give the final touch to this masterpiece.

PREMIERE : Gem Wallow - I Am 5 Months Old (Simple Symmetry Remix)

Following up on their highly acclaimed debut release from 2020, raster presents Il Quadro di Troisi's »Remixes« album, an eclectic collection of reinterpretations of eight of the group's tracks.
By inviting fellow label artists as well as friends and long-term collaborators to contribute to this, »Remixes« shows a broad spectrum of diversity, ranging from colorful, loop-based renditions by Toulouse Low Trax and Tropicantesimo, to (Italo) disco-inspired versions by Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigi and Chloé, to more rhythmical and functional tracks by AtomTM, Dasha Rush and Front de Cadeaux. The album also includes a dub-infused reinterpretation of »Il giudizio« by the artists themselves.
»Remixes« will be out on raster on October 27, 2023 as 2xLP and digitally. The record's artwork was contributed by Spanish graphic designer Alicia Carrera.

Especial is delighted to welcome Odopt back to the label, this time teaming up with Sano for a club-heavy global excursion and the vocal deep dive of Picha. A meeting of friends and collaborators across continents and years, finally presented in vocal and instrumental, as well the welcome return of label stalwart Jamie Paton with additional remix and dub to bite.

Long-time fans of Sebastian Hoyos aka Sano’s productions, seeing him release for Matias Aguayo’s Comeme and Munich’s Public Possession, Especial jumped at the chance to present Odopt’s reworkings of Sano’s oeuvre, taking vocalist’s Lolito
night-time exoticisms and offering a red-lit basement, dark room anthem.

As with all good things, time let the music ferment. The 2016 outline became a 2019 demo, first presented to the label, and emphatically embraced. With Sano returning from Barcelona to his native Columbia, replacing the world of club culture with horticulture, Odopt found their new Paris base led them to finally hit the pocket, the tribal percussion propelled by the razor-sharp snare and perfectly, more cowbell.

Who better than to request remixes than the origin of Especial, its first artist, mainstay mixer, and designer of each artwork since the label’s birth in late 2013, Jamie Paton. Having gone on to release for label peers and inspirations, ESP Institute and Multi Culti, this is a welcome return. Paton’s trademark deep dubwise is ever present, as is the exemplary programming, but now the twist of breaks in Remix form gives this EP widescreen dynamics.

The sound system stretching Dub mix rounds off, the vocals pulled back, the wobble and trembling bass, again highlight Especial’s mission, club music for the head and feet, mixing new wave with neu rave, beats with breaks, looking back but always, always moving forwards.
