After filling french DJ’s USB sticks with his trademark edit packs full of dancefloor weapons, as well as a superb tape alongside Hyas on his own label, he finally joins our catalog with the Balfigor EP.

His 4 tunes showcase very singular blends of baile funk, dancehall, speed garage and even jungle, and are eagerly waiting for you to play them, alongside a remix of the eponymous track by our very own king of the MPC Kaval, with his unmistakable dancehall sauce.

Balfigor EP

Leck Meine Bahn - they are back! These two space cadets bring back home some heavy radiated elements from outer space. After a two year odyssey, they return back to mother earth with an insane Live Set (Backslash Festival 2022) and a Battery Point EP full of blasting fusion energy. Their musical capsule comes packed with new textures, mixed up with an unholy but tasty reduction of Jungle and Trance substances melting with a fusion of Bass Music and industrial space chugs.
This cosmologic sound match is leading to a new co-dependency between gravity and bass. Their enigmatic grooves are ponderous yet playful and every alien ear which listened to this intergalactic call so far, could not escape this quirky dance atmosphere. Brainwaves music commanders aka LMB are Estebahn and Yolek and this composition is their second EP which results to an extension of new boundaries in our further rave solar system. Including two massive remixes by Jan Loup and Nuevo Prohibido to beam up every sort of flesh to the the next bass portal. Space alert!

There was one question which burned brighter and more pressing than any other. It had been troubling him for some time and had plagued his very existence.

'Were they in the future and was this real at all?'

Dreamers have always pondered the meaning of life and whilst some were regarded as esteemed men of thought others were simply regarded as lunatics and mavericks.

'What was he?'

As he wandered slowly through the city streets he looked around him at the miscellaneous faces which passed by without knowing. Little did they know about such big questions.

'Is this future now?'

This is a track taken from a new EP on Early Reflex predominantly made up of remixes of material originally recorded by Alec Pace. This track however, remains untouched and untampered. A new original which features deconstructed breaks, rough high pitched electronics and a nod to old school bass music culture.

Raketa is a Slovenian artist from Ljubljana and today we are happy to premiere her tune MIRIS which comes out as a part of the upcoming VA 3 compilation on Emotional Voyage Records, the funky music outlet of UrbnMowgli and moodrich from Berlin. 

Some words from the artist herself:

So MIRIS for me was a journey through loneliness and synths can help a lot with that. My inspiration was an open source vocal synth with which I explored the role of voice in music that can be other than just carrying the lyrics. The journey brought me and the track to dark 90s acid-trancey vibe that suits lonely feelings well. And as Slovenian meaning of Osama alludes connotation of loneliness is not only bad - it can lead you to mysterious places and fill you with powerful energies.

Rhizome releases the compilation album Hypersea inspired by hydro feminism and becoming a body of water.

The Copenhagen/Berlin based label Rhizome releases a compilation album inspired by the writer Astrida Neimanis. On the album you’ll be presented to a wide range of the Copenhagen underground from artists such as Messell to Varnrable.

Friday September 1st 2023 Rhizome releases and celebrates the compilation album Hypersea. The compilation album takes its point of departure with the text ‘Hydrofeminism - Or, On Becoming a Body of Water’ by Astrida Neimanis and contains 18 tracks from the Copenhagen underground scene apart from a track from New York namely Laenz who earlier this year released a double single on the label. In each way the artists have interpreted the text by Neimanis and worked with its topics such as water, fluid borders and feminism.

Alto Aria about the album: “With the current threat of a watering ban in Denmark, increasing pollution and lack of water all over the world, we zoom in on water with this album. We wish to follow Neimanis’ thread about water and feminism – she teaches us that we and our identity, like the fluid borders of the oceans, always are negotiable and never fixed. With the compilation we celebrate water and its essential role in our lives. Whether it is through the lens of clean drinking water, an identity in flux, dying fish, the western pollution level or something completely different, we wish this album to be a reflection over and a get together around what we all depend on.”

The album has become a sonic collage of a watery quest, fast footsteps, shifting and fragmented choir pieces, broken beats and hearts, soothing synthesisers, harsh wind, caring bodies, uplifting beats, polyphonic saxophones and long reverbs. Hypersea is curated by Alto Aria and presents works by Hôy la, ilinx, Saltmother, Julia Becker, ill, Angel Wei, Lyra Valenza, Faber, Jason Lee, Bysund, Holger Seidelin, Astrid Nørgaard, KRY, Laenz, Varnrable, Messell, Skarv and Alto Aria.

Rhizome is a Copenhagen/Berlin based label started in 2020 by Aria Leth Schütze and Mads Krue Bugge. The primary focus of the label is experimental electronic music and alternative release formats. Rhizome has released music by artists such as Alto Aria, Skarv, Swell, Polly, Nemo, ioulus, Laenz, Ida Urd, and ill as well as the compilation album bag/belly/box. Four years on from his release on TIMEDANCE002 as L.SAE, Joseph Higgins is back on the label under his flagship moniker Metrist. 

Pollen Pt. I is the first part of a trilogy of records, showcasing Metrist's latest developments in twisted beat-science. The release combines four tracks of rudeboi electro swagger, off-kilter vocal chops and imaginative grooves. 

Since his L.SAE record in 2015 Metrist has released on Where To Now?, Neighborhood and an LP Opal Tapes, here he refines his sound palette even further, striking a unique balance between the avant-garde and dancefloor.

Metrist - OL Face You Got

Melbourne based producer, DJ and co-founder of Sumac Records, Jon Watts delivers his Butter Sessions debut, Music for 3 CDJs. With over 10 years experimenting as an artist, Jon has an established history with the Australian underground scene. Music for 3 CDJs, showcases two contrasting sides, revealing his ability to seamlessly navigate manifold sounds.

The A-side presents three distinct tracks, thread together with restless percussion and a propulsive force. The introduction to the EP, Prohaasation, is a medley of techno and electro fabrics which progressively build before abruptly halting -- generating suspense for the track to follow. The feverish William gasps and screeches in tones that peak and fall, accompanied by audio maintained throughout; reminiscent of a malfunctioning fax machine. Now It’s Done is a choppy and disjointed piece yet coherent in its structure that makes for a rewarding conclusion to the release’s first chapter.

Subtlety and minimalism prevail for side B, as Jon gifts us with loops that swirl and churn. AMB 4 marks the first deviation from the narrative of Side A; sounding like hypnotic swelling from the bottom of a deep well. AMB 5 follows suit, divulging more of the picture. Carved out of a sound bed of field recordings, the nine and a half minute piece enchants with its repetitive arc, a spaciousness mirrored in the EP’s farewell. The last track Piano 1, is an intricate study of a singular piano chord, examining the layers of the chord’s sustain that are disclosed. A testament to Jon’s unadorned restraint and confirmation of the old adage that less is really more.

The wet mud and grit felt cold against his cheek. He tried to focus on this sensation, rather than the muffled shouts and jeers from behind him. Slowly and carefully, he heaved himself off the ground limb by limb, panting heavily as he swayed onto his feet. Straightening up, he looked them square in the eye. Disbelief and fear spread across the faces of these perpetrators. They didn't think they'd have this much of a fight on their hands. It didn't matter how hard their punches or how vicious their insults; nothing would keep him down...

After contributions to Volume 2 and 3 of their Of Paradise compilation series, the label of the same name have invited Nuremberg-based producer Lazarus back for his first full solo outing on the imprint. Downwards is a ride through futuristic techno and breakbeat; maneouvering from deep rhythms and stabs of percussion to bright melodies and ferocious drum patterns, with each track showcasing Lazurus' knack for texture, expanse and emotion.
