The Queer Northern-Ireland born Cormac is back from another busy year as a label honcho and curator with the second Polari compilation No Tears In The Backroom Vol. 2 scheduled for release 31st of January 2024.

The compilation is filled with synth heavy swings, acid basslines, steamy vocals and lots of fun, making NTITB Vol. 2 the perfect entrance release into the new year.

Cormac says; No Tears In The Backroom Vol. 2 is a unique family with offerings from Polari hitmakers such as Jordan Nocturne, ROTCIV, & Louis de Tomaso as well as introducing new talent to the roster including DJ City, Nimmo, Shay Shaz, Hifi Sean, Joshua James + Xols.

I curate the compilation much as I do a DJ set, so there is a voyage of sorts in listening to the compilation as a whole. I encourage the listener to listen as you would an album, although they of course work solo as well.

A 10-track long journey forms a unique force of anthemic sounds, tapping into nostalgia but never pulling away from today's references. No Tears In The Backroom Vol. 2 serves as a dance-heavy pursuit aiming to not hold back.

The label profits from the new compilation are going to charity. Polari has previously raised money for All Out.

Bytes are super excited to announce the reissue of the killer 1990s electro EPs by SEM (aka Damon Baxter, who would go on to record as Deadly Avenger). The original 12”s have been out of print since they were released on J Saul Kane’s Electron Industries imprint in 1995 (Phox EP) and 1996 (The Demon EP). They have never been available digitally. With the original masters M.I.A., the tracks have been lovingly remastered from vinyl by Keith Tenniswood, who as part of Two Lone Swordsmen (alongside the late Andrew Weatherall), knows a thing or two about producing top-notch electro music. "Neulust," the latest EP from Neuzeitliche Bodenbeläge, introduces listeners to the talents of Joshua Gottmanns and Niklas Wandt. Wandt's captivating voice invokes a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of the era when Thorsten Fenslau was active, infusing tracks with poetic recitations. Wandt's drumming harmonizes perfectly with Gottmanns' warm chords and captivating melodies. Together, they debuted on Zurich's Lustpoderosa label with "Neulust," aiming to redefine their musical connection. Their presence in the central European underground scene has been marked by releases on Themes for Great Cities or Bureau B, accompanied by their vintage German Wave sound and lively performances. Regular touring has been part of their journey. "Neulust," recorded with minimal intervention, delves into themes of love, estrangement, and consumerism, blending haunting electro, deep house, NDW, and Euro Dance Elements. A year after releasing the “So Sprach Psychedelia” Remixes EP, brilliantly reworked by Rodion, Skelesys and Rambal Cochet, Thisbe Recordings´ Pyrame releases a second sequel of remixes from his EP “Electronica Melancholia”.

On board - and on target - to remix the title track “Electronica Melancholia”, two usual suspects of Thisbe: Volta Cab (“Alphabet of Humanity” (THISBE009), “Oseary Drakoulias” (THISBELTDX001)) and Philip Lawns (“Ten Years of Travel” (THISBE004)). Joining them for the occasion, a recent artist on the label, A-Tweed, who is half of Oblako Maranta, his collab with Radial Gaze and who recently released “Trance Beckenbauer” (THISBE015).

The Electronica Melancholia Remixes EP starts off straight into A-Tweed´s magic of producing that trademark acid weird disco sound that conveys such a special groove on the dancefloor - and beyond. Remixing the original track into something somehow progressive as well, the Rome-based artist nails another classic of the label´s catalogue. His kick is firm, his percussions even firmer. Yet, A-Tweed manages to keep some of the softness from the original melodies layered over a captivating bassline. A fine work all around.

Next on the Tracklisting is Philip Lawns, who revisited “Electronica Melancholia” from his very intimate lens, taking the listener on a journey into his own mind. Those ambient sounds from within that the Italian artist manages to subtly reproduce in his music, in perfect symbiose with Pyrame´s original arpeggios. The flow is deep and at the same time, dirty like a dusty turntable jumping at every turn. His remix is a portray, where distant voices echo over a phone ringing, hoping from someone to pick up. The music can´t stop, the call remains unanswered.

Third - but not least - the Krasnodar-based über-productive Volta Cab sets once again some serious standards in the post-punk genre, crafting from the very first kick on a mesmerizing mix of EBM and dark electro overlaid by an intense and irresistible infusion of synths on acid. All that in a less-than-4 minutes remix. Powerful.

Cherry on the cake: A-Tweed treats us with an Acid Dub version of his remix. An almost 12 minutes long mix, cruising a 79bpm, to ensure an immersive experience into “la mélancholie électronique” up to the very end of the Remixes EP. Gold.

The third release on Derek Russo’s own Broad Channel imprint “Special Occasion" EP arrives loaded with a wide palate of club swagger for any hour of the party. “Celestial Machine” is the A1 rough and rumbling trip, steered by a wiggly SH101 bass line and anchored by a thunderous sub bass and tenacious, rattling percussion. A floating pad briefly takes the edge off before lurching back. The sounds here are inspired and shaped by the aching cacophony of city life. “Yearning 4 Love” marries a Detroit inspired motif, with tasteful synth layering and bouncy, off-kilter drum programming. The result is an inquisitive banger, something different for the modern dance floor.

On the flip side, the title track ‘Special Occasion’ drops the tempo to a chugging rhythm that swings from a funky break tucked underneath. Deranged piano chords open up to a sinister synth line, jangling guitar and a thick 80s bass line. The final track “Planet Sunset” closes out this EP with a soaring, introspective synth floating on top of a rolling breakbeat groove, disco fed bass work and Juno stabs that resolves into a wave of oozy pad chords - a sure piece for the late night discerning dance floor.
