EM008 — "Hyperlost" by Raär + Whylie

A testament to catharsis of body and mind, an homage to sentiment and intrigue.

‘Hyper:lost’ purveys two interlinked but distinct sides of an artist whose reputation has spanned a long and ever maturing path of sonic development. Where Raär’s signature intricacy manifests in the grittier ‘hyper’ half of ‘hyper:lost’, Whylie counters with the haunted but sentimental spatiality of the other - the ‘lost’.

For this is like a search through the dialectic of the machine; energetic fluxes and frenetic textural modulations of the hyperreal encounter swirls of melancholy and lush human washes of its seeker. These are the contradictions of a determinedly uncertain pursuit; of a head charge into the void.

Twin parts diagnosis and remedy of a present insanity. Heads down and knees up for the end.

Brighton based Producer/DJ Crofton Bonney AKA Pocket Wisdom has been making electronic sounds since 1996, when he first fell in love with the music of fellow Essex stalwarts, The Prodigy. He was quickly indoctrinated into the underground music scene of his then home, Southend -on -Sea and was a regular appearance on the lineup at the infamous ‘Megabyte,’ club night held at the Palace Ballrooms. From there he gravitated to London and crafted his skills, DJing at underground dance events at Camden Palace, The Office and The Fridge. 

In 2009 he moved to Brighton and has been quietly forging a vast canon of over 150 hours of music which wasn’t ever going to see the light of day until the pandemic hit in 2020. It seems now is a better time than ever, to finally reveal his life’s work. His sound is meditative, other worldly and ethereal. A mix of lush orchestral samples, ambient synth-work and chopped breakbeats, its difficult to shoe-horn Bonney into a definitive style, but it’s one that is full of colour, texture and scope. His debut album ‘A Space Between,’ is due for for release on 26th March 2021.- Crispan Topaz (Feb 2021)
