Soar is a doom metal or post-metal band based in Tartu, Estonia. The band was formed in 2004, and since then has operated at intervals and in different configurations.

Hi, I’m Steve Montgomery, a musician with several solo projects. I started out playing in metal bands—first as a drummer, then as a singer—but when those bands eventually disbanded, I focused more seriously on my own music. While I’ve always loved metal, my passion for film scores has been equally strong. In my younger years, I collected film soundtracks and Tangerine Dream albums. Their music became my escape; I’d listen to it every night, and synth music left a lasting impression on me. I still remember seeing the trailer for Halloween at my grandmother’s house as a kid—the music stuck with me.
I bought my first professional synth, a Kurzweil K2000VP, in 1996, and I still use it today. Over time, I started collecting more hardware synthesizers until the hobby became a bit expensive. That’s when I discovered virtual instruments. The first one I bought was the original Arturia Collection, followed by EastWest and Native Instruments Kontakt libraries. My first Kontakt library was from Sample Logic, and after that, I was hooked on music software. My focus shifted from hardware synths to virtual instruments.
Over the years, I’ve released a number of projects, including two Notic Reign albums, three SDM albums (all made with hardware synths), five Darkmood albums (the early ones were made with the Kurzweil K2000 and Roland Fantom, while the later ones feature Kontakt instruments and Omnisphere), and an Infinite Mindscape album combining both virtual and hardware synths. In October 2022, I released my first album under my own name, Steve Montgomery, without using a pseudonym. The album is titled Night Sky.

My music has been featured in a variety of media—from radio and podcasts to television and festivals. It’s been played in shopping malls, on music video channels, and has even topped the charts on several music platforms. I composed music for a TV comedy called Tik Tok Famous, a pilot for an adventure show, and a mini-documentary called Shadows of Bartonville. I’m also a composer for Scorekeepers Music in Los Angeles, and my music has been featured on shows like Snapped: Killer Couples, Fatal Attraction, and Payback. You can hear my work on networks like NBC, ABC, Oxygen, Amazon Prime, and Peacock.
